Reported: 2010-11-23 (November 23, 2010) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
ALTEC IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1998-2008 AERIAL DEVICES VEHICLES BUILT FROM JANUARY 1998 THROUGH MAY 2008. THE GLUE BOND JOINT IN THE INSULATING ARM LINK MAY FAIL OVER TIME. THE CONNECTION IS ALSO SECURED BY EIGHT BOLTS, BUT WITH THE LOSS OF THE GLUE BOND, THE FASTENERS COULD FATIGUE OVER TIME AND FAIL.
Consequence: FAILURE OF THE GLUE BOND AND FASTENERS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE FIBERGLASS LINK FROM THE STEEL INSERTS. AS A RESULT, THE PLATFORM ON WHICH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WOULD STAND COULD FAIL DURING USE RESULTING IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.
Remedy: ALTEC WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSPECT THE FIBERGLASS INSULATING LINK AND FASTENERS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 1, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ALTEC AT 1-877-462-5832.

Remedy: ALTEC HAS DEVELOPED KITS TO IMPROVE THE ATTACHMENT OF THE BILLET STEEL COUNTERWEIGHTS. CUSTOMERS AT THEIR OPTION MAY PERFORM THE REPAIR OR HAVE A DEALER INSTALL THE KIT FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ALTEC AT 1-877-462-5832.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2012: 0 complaints · 2013: 0 complaints

| 2012 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2012 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2013 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
