Recall history

10 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

79V194000 · Exterior Lighting:Tail Lights

Reported: 1979-08-28 (August 28, 1979) · Model years: 1980

AN IMPROPER BULB SOCKET MAY EXIST IN THE TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY CAUSE AN UNACCEPTABLE DECREASE IN BRIGHTNESS LEVELS IN LAMPS USED FOR REAR SIGNALING.

Remedy: REDUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT EMITTED FROM REAR TAILLIGHTS CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. CORRECTIVE ACTION: DEALER WILL REPLACE REAR LAMP SOCKETS WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

79V199000 · Power Train:Axle Assembly:Axle Shaft

Reported: 1979-09-10 (September 10, 1979) · Model years: 1980

A HALF SHAFT ASSEMBLY ON THE RIGHT OR LEFT SIDE OF THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE MECHANISM MAY DEVELOP A FRACTURE NEAR ITS INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINT.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE RIGHT AND LEFT HALF SHAFT ASSEMBLIES AT NO COST TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
79V240000 · Power Train:Driveline:Universal Joint

Reported: 1979-10-30 (October 30, 1979) · Model years: 1980

SOME OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE INCORRECT UNIVERSAL JOINT FASTENERS. THESE FASTENERS MAY LOOSEN AND ALLOW THE PROPELLER SHAFT TO DISCONNECT FROM THE AXLE OR TRANSFER CASE.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT FASTENERS AT NO COST TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V007000 · Power Train:Axle Hubs

Reported: 1981-01-09 (January 9, 1981) · Model years: 1981

THE FRONT AXLE HUB SPACER MAY HAVE BEEN OMITTED FROM THE FRONT HUB AND BEARING CARRIER ASSEMBLIES. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW EXCESSIVE FRONT WHEEL BEARING MOVEMENT RESULTING IN WHEEL BEARING DAMAGE.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE FRONT SPACER AND WHEEL BEARING AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V016000 · Seat Belts

Reported: 1981-01-04 (January 4, 1981) · Model years: 1981

THE LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SAFETY BELT ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE INCORRECT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SHOULDER BELT LOCKING MECHANISM MAY NOT FUNCTION UNDER RAPID DECELERATION. UNDER HARD BRAKING APPLICATIONS OR IN A COLLISION, THE SHOULDER PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM MAY FAIL TO PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE PASSENGER. THERE IS INCREASED RISK OF INJURY TO PASSENGERS WHO MAY CONTACT OTHER OBJECTS UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.

Remedy: SEAT BELTS WILL BE INSPECTED FOR PROPER INSTALLATION AND, IF NECESSARY, SEAT BELTS WILL BE EITHER REPLACED OR RELOCATED IN CORRECT POSITION. WORK WILL BE COMPLETED WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNERS.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V081000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1981-07-06 (July 6, 1981) · Model years: 1981

THE CRUISE COMMAND ACTUATION CHAIN MAY CATCH ON THE THROTTLE LINKAGE, CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO REMAIN IN A PARTIALLY OPEN POSITION.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE CRUISE COMMAND ACTUATION CHAIN ASSEMBLY, AND A SHIELD WILL BE MOUNTED ON THE THROTTLE LINKAGE AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V110000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Front Underhood

Reported: 1981-09-22 (September 22, 1981) · Model years: 1982

THE UNDERHOOD WIRING HARNESS AND VENTILATING HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN MISROUTED DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. MISROUTING MAY CAUSE CHAFING BETWEEN THE HARNESS AND VARIOUS OTHER COMPONENTS, RESULTING IN SHORT CIRCUITS AND MALFUNCTION OF ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES. THE SWITCH WHICH ACTIVATES THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT MAY NOT FUNCTION. THE CRANKCASE VENTILATION HOSE MAY BE TOO CLOSE TO THE AIR INJECTION MANIFOLD TUBE AND COULD BE DAMAGED IF ENGINE OVERHEATS.

Remedy: UPON INSPECTION, DEALER WILL REPAIR ENGINE COMPARTMENT WIRING HARNESS, REROUTE THE HOSE, AND REPLACE THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WITHOUT CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
82V053000 · Visibility:Windshield

Reported: 1982-05-24 (May 24, 1982) · Model years: 1982

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED. THE ADHESION BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD GLASS AND URETHANE SEALING IS INCOMPLETE. THIS FAILS TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 212, "WINDSHIELD MOUNTING".

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE PRESENT WINDSHIELD IF DAMAGED OR REINSTALL EXISTING WINDSHIELD IF NOT.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
82V126000 · Power Train:Manual Transmission:Lubricant

Reported: 1982-12-13 (December 13, 1982) · Model years: 1982

ORIGINAL PRODUCTION TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT USED IN THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, MAY NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE LUBRICATION TO PROTECT THE TRANSMISSION"S FIRST GEAR.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION LUBRICANT WITH AN EXTREME PRESSURE LUBRICANT AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER.

Reported: 1983-11-15 (November 15, 1983) · Model years: 1984

FRONT WHEELS MAY WOBBLE DUE TO THE INADVERTENT OMISSION OF A WHEEL BEARING CUP DURING ASSEMBLY.

Remedy: VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF BEARING PARTS ARE DISCOVERED TO BE MISSING, THEY WILL BE INSTALLED BEFORE THE VEHICLES ARE SOLD.

WE HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORP. AND THE PHONE ATTENDANT SAID "WE WILL NOT COVER THIS". LET ME SAY THAT LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON A DETERIORATION (PCV) HOSE ON THIS VEHICLE AND THEY (CHRYSLER) TOOK CARE OF THIS AT A LOCAL DEALER. IT SURE DOES SEEM TO ME THAT SAFETY BELTS ARE OF GREATER IMPORTANCE THAN A HOSE!! WE HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND CANNOT BUCKLE THEM IN!!!!

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
