Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

03V492000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar

Reported: 2003-12-26 (December 26, 2003) · Model years: 2002, 2003

ON CERTAIN DUAL STEER TRUCKS, THE 18" STEERING WHEELS WERE NOT ASSEMBLED CORRECTLY. THE HORNS EITHER WORKED INTERMITTENTLY OR NOT AT ALL.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD PREVENT A DRIVER FROM WARNING ANOTHER VEHICLE OR BYSTANDER OF THEIR PRESENCE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH OR INJURY TO BYSTANDERS.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REASSEMBLE THE CONTACT PLATE POSITION OR ROLLER POSITION, IF NECESSARY. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT AUTOCAR AT 1-877-973-3486.

03V453000 · Steering:Gear Box:Shaft Pitman

Reported: 2003-11-14 (November 14, 2003) · Model years: 2003

ON CERTAIN CLASS 8 TRUCKS, THE CASTLE NUT HOLDING THE PITMAN ARM TO THE STEERING DRAG LINK CAN VIBRATE LOOSE DUE TO A MISSING COTTER PIN.

Consequence: IF THE STEERING COMPONENTS BECOME DETACHED FROM EACH OTHER, THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE STEERING WITHOUT WARNING, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

Remedy: AUTOCAR HAS TELEPHONED ALL CUSTOMERS AND ALL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED.

10V305000 · Fuel System, Other:Storage:Tank Assembly

Reported: 2010-06-28 (June 28, 2010) · Model years: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010

MCNEILUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN TRUCKS BUILT ON AUTOCAR CHASSIS. DURING THE REFUSE BODY MOUNTING PROCESS, CHASSIS AIR TANKS MAY BE RELOCATED TO FACILITATE MOUNTING OF THE BODY. AIRLINES TO THE AIR HOLDBACK VALVE MAY HAVE BEEN RECONNECTED INCORRECTLY AFTER A TANK(S) WAS RELOCATED.

Consequence: A RELOCATED TANK COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY.

Remedy: OWNERS WILL INSPECT VEHICLES AND PERFORM REPAIRS FREE OR CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 15, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MCNEILUS AT 507-374-6321.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
