Recall history

6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

89V073000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1989-05-08 (May 8, 1989) · Model years: 1989

THERE MAY BE INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN A CLAMP ON A VACUUM HOSE AND THE THROTTLE LINKAGE.

Consequence: ON RAPID APPLICATION OF FULL THROTTLE, LINKAGE COULD BINDAGAINST A CLAMP AND RESULT IN LOSS OF ACCELERATOR CONTROL, WHICH COULD CAUSE ANACCIDENT.

Remedy: REROUTE VACUUM HOSE AND SHORTEN VACUUM PIPE.

90V073000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1990-04-12 (April 12, 1990) · Model years: 1989, 1990

THERE IS INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER HYDRAULIC LINE AND THE ENGINE OIL COOLER LINE. IF THE LINES COME IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER, THE CHAFING MAY DAMAGE THE BRAKE LINE AND CAUSE A FLUID LEAK.

Consequence: HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKES WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy: ADD A PROTECTIVE SHIELD TO PREVENT CONTACT AND REPLACE ANY DAMAGED HYDRAULIC PIPE.

95V159000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission

Reported: 1995-08-17 (August 17, 1995) · Model years: 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996

AN INCORRECTLY POSITIONED WIRE WITHIN THE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED GEARBOX ACTUATOR CAN CHAFE AGAINST THE COVER CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR FUSE TO BLOW.

Consequence: IF THE FUSE BLOWS, THE DRIVER CANNOT CHANGE GEARS OR PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THIS CONDITION CAN DISABLE THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION, INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE AFFECTED WIRE TO PREVENT CONTACT WITH THE GEARBOX ACTUATOR COVER.

97V122000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1997-08-04 (August 4, 1997) · Model years: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE BOLTS ATTACHING THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN TO THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING COUPLING CAN CONTACT THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PIPES LOCATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN LEAD TO A BRAKE HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK AND REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE PIPES TO PREVENT CONTACT BETWEEN THE PIPES AND BOLTS, AND ANY DAMAGED PIPES WILL BE REPLACED.

95V230000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Fluid

Reported: 1995-12-05 (December 5, 1995) · Model years: 1996

AN INCOMPATIBILITY CAN EXIST BETWEEN THE MINERAL OIL SUPPLIED BY CASTROL AND THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM OF THESE VEHICLES.

Consequence: THE BRAKE PEDAL FEEL CAN VARY, ESPECIALLY FOLLOWING A PROLONGED PERIOD OF INACTIVITY AND HIGHER PEDAL PRESSURE MAY BE REQUIRED. THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE A LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY AND INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL DRAIN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND REFILL THE SYSTEM WITH NEW MINERAL OIL. THE AFFECTED SPARE BOTTLES WILL ALSO BE REPLACED.

97V050000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1997-03-27 (March 27, 1997) · Model years: 1997

TWO HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PIPES CONNECTING THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PUMPS TO THE ACCUMULATORS CAN CONTACT EACH OTHER, RESULTING IN A HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK.

Consequence: CHAFING OF THE PIPES CAN RESULT IN A FLUID LEAK AND CONSEQUENT LOSS OF BRAKING PERFORMANCE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE PIPES TO PREVENT CONTACT BETWEEN THE TWO PIPES.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
