MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE 95, AND THE CAR SUDDENLY GAVE A WARNING MESSAGE BRIEFLY, SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF "PARKING" ISSUE AND JUST STARTED TO SHUTDOWN COMPLETELY (LOSING POWER). SHE HAD TO COAST AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE TO MAKE A FULL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY HIGHWAY - FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT RESULTED FROM THIS SUDDEN SHUTTING DOWN OF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS GOING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE BMW DARIEN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODE RECORDED BY THE CA…
THIS BMW HAS APPROXIMATELY 16000 MILES ON IT (WAS PURCHASED LAST YEAR). CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN FIRST TIME THAT DAY. CAR WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED AWAY TO A BMW DEALER. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF BACK AND FORTH ABOUT SOFTWARE RESET ETC, THE DEALER WORKED WITH BMW TO DETERMINE THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS …
AFTER DRIVING THE CAR AND PUTTING IT INTO PARK AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE; I AM NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THUS I AM LEFT TRAPPED INSIDE MY CAR WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 295 IN VIRGINIA WITH NO OVERPASSES OR ELEVATIONS AROUND ME AND NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME ONLY BEHIND ME, WHEN SUDDENLY THE SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED. LUCKILY SINCE MY SUNROOF WAS CLOSED I HAD THE INSIDE COVER PULLED FORWARD SO THE GLASS DID NOT FALL ON TOP OF ME. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER FOR ME IF THE GLASS HAD FALLEN ON ME AND CREATED OR CAUSED ME TO TURN INTO OTHER TRAFFIC. PHOTO

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
