ON MAY 28TH 2012 ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BMW THREW A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT. USING A SCANNER, A CODE P0741 WAS THROWN. WHEN I SEARCHED ON GOOGLE, I FOUND IT WAS VERY COMMON FOR THE E39 BMW 530IA CARS HOUSING ZF MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSIONS TO HAVE THE TORQUE CONVERTER TURBINE SHAFT SEAL DETERIORATED CAUSING THE FAULT. IT IS UNREASONABLE TO HAVE BMW TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF OVER $4000 FOR A SEAL THAT IS NO MORE THAN $25.00. THEREFORE IT SHOULD BE A GOODWILL REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE MANUFACTURE OF A FAULTY TRANSMISSION WITH A KNOWN PAR…

I HAVE NEVER ABUSED THE CAR OR HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT HAS A SEALED TRANSMISSION AND YOU CAN'T CHECK OR ADD FLUID. I GOT STUCK AGAINST A CURB WHILE TRY…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
