BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 C 600 Sport Maxi-Scooter, and C 650 GT Maxi-Scooter motorcycles manufactured August 2, 2012, through February 18, 2014. In the affected motorcycles, the camshaft chain tensioner may not function properly, resulting in an engine stall.
Consequence: An engine stall may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the camshaft chain tensioner, free of charge. BMW distributed interim notification to owners on July 15, 2014. The recall is expected to begin in July 2014. Owners may contact BMW Customer Relations at 1-800-525-7417.
Reported: 2012-12-03 (December 3, 2012) · Model years: 2013
BMW is recalling certain model year 2013 C600 Sport Maxi-Scooters manufactured August 7, 2012, through November 20, 2012. The fasteners on the front side trim panels may have insufficient strength to retain the panels at high speeds.
Consequence: If the panel separates it could interfere with riding and handling of the scooter and increase the risk of a crash. The panel could also become a hazard for other road users.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will reattach the left and right front side trim panels with stronger "snap-lock" fasteners. The recall began on January 10, 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2013 C 600 Sport, C 650 GT, F 700 GS, F 800 GS, F 800 GS Adventure, F 800 GT, R 1200 R and R1200 GS motorcycles. Water may enter the side-stand switch preventing the motorcycle from starting or potentially shutting off the motorcycle while it is being ridden.
Consequence: An unexpected shutdown increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side-stand switch, free of charge. The recall began on April 8, 2014. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW C600 Sport and C650 Sport and 2013-2019 C650 GT scooters. Repeated turning of the handlebars to the left most position may cause the front brake hose to crack and leak over time.
Consequence: A brake fluid leak can reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake hose, adding an additional protective sleeve that will cover the hose connection fitting, free of charge. The recall began August 6, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Note: This recall includes scooters previously recalled under 15V-738.

I PURCHASED A C600 SPORT ON NOVEMBER 27TH 2012. IT STALLED 2 TIMES BEFORE THE 600 MILES CHECK UP NOT THINKING MUCH ABOUT IT I DIDN'T DOCUMENT THOSE DAYS BUT DID CALL THE DEALER & LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A MOISTURE PROBLEM IN THE START/KILL SWITCH. YESTERDAY FEBRUARY 9TH IT STALLED 3 TIMES & AFTER READING THE FORUMS I FILLED THE GAS USING THE CENTER STAND THINKING THERE MIGHT BE AN AIR POCKET IN THE TANK BUT IT STALLED AGAIN WITHIN 5 MINUTES. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A METHOD TO THE STALLING OTHER STOPPING OR LOW …
WHEN SLOWING, THE ENGINE CONSISTENTLY STALLS. WHEN COMING TO A STOP, WHEN SLOWING FOR SPEED BUMPS, AND WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED TURNS, THE ENGINE WILL STALL. THERE IS A NOTICEABLE SMELL OF GAS WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. *TR
On 08/23/2023, the scooter (2016 BMW C650 Sport) had no signs of issue when I rode it to my work place in the morning. But when I went back home around 11:45AM, the scooter lost power after 100 ~ 200 feet from my work place. I immediately pulled over and turned off the engine. After that, I could not turn on the engine and there was only noise coming from the engine. On 08/24/2023, the local dealer (San Jose BMW Motorcycles) called me and said that the scooter's engine is broken due to a broken piece from timing-chain tensioner damaging the …

I BOUGHT THIS SCOOTER IN NOVEMBER 2012 & HAD QUITE A FEW STALLING PROBLEMS WITH IT. AFTER A FEW CALLS TO BMW & MY LOCAL DEALER THEY WERE ABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH A COMPUTER UPDATE. YESTERDAY THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN & HAS DONE IT 2 DAYS IN A ROW. I'VE CALLED THE DEALER & BMW & INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. THIS NO DOUBT COULD LEAD TO EITHER DEATH OR DISABILITY. ON APRIL 27, 2014 AFTER 1,534 MILES WITH NO ISSUES MY BMW C600 SPORT MAXI-SCOOTER 2013 BEGAN TO STALL. SPECIFICALLY, JUST AFTER 1,500 MILES I STALLED SEVERAL TIMES DURING LOW-THROTTLE OR IDLE SITUATIONS SUCH AS STOPLIGHTS AND SLOW-SPEED MANEUVERS, AND I EVEN STALLED TWICE DURING SLOW-SPEED TURNS. THE STALLING ISSUE WAS SO PERVASIVE (OCCURRING AT NEARLY EVERY OTHER STOPLIGHT AND TURN) I BARELY GOT IT HOME, BUT MANAGED TO DO SO. I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE THE GARAGE ONCE THE SCOOTER WAS HOME AND PARKED THERE. THE STRONG GASOLINE …

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
