Owner report 11728350 · 2026-03-31 (March 31, 2026)

The vehicle displayed a “Passenger Restraint System Malfunction” warning. Upon diagnosis by an authorized BMW dealership (Fields BMW, [XXX] ), the issue was identified as a faulty passenger knee airbag wiring harness (short to ground). The dealer confirmed that this condition is documented in a BMW Technical Service Bulletin [XXX] ), indicating that BMW is aware of a recurring defect involving this component. This failure directly affects the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which is a critical safety system designed to protect occupants…

The starter in my 2022 BMW M340I sedan was faulty after 54,000 miles. It began to take two attempts to start the vehicle each time and was at risk of not starting. The first attempt all electrical components would turn on but the ignition was unable to start the engine. Then the second attempt was generally successful. I took it to the dealer and had to replace my starter to return the vehicle to normal operation. BMW has recalled tens of thousands of other starters including my model but not yet for the 2022 BMW M340i I was told.

The engine oil pump has failed. The part is available for inspection. The failed oil pump causes the engine to blow up, leaving oil and coolant behind on the road as hazards and causing our vehicle violently spin out on the road. The problem has been reproduced multiple times and claimed by bmw dealerships to be faulty on multiple occasions. Upon further research, it has affected 80% of the 2019 and 2020 g series chassis vehicles with the B58tu engine. BMW has a known problem of failed oil pump. As has my own 2020 bmw m340i. At approximately 20,000 miles, vehicle indicated excessively low oil. The dealer indicated oil level was excessively low but did not identify the problem,. The vehicle was filled and returned to owner. Within 1000 miles, the incident occurred again. Dealer replaced replaced the valve cover claiming that was the issue. Now within +/- 1000 miles, the oil level is again excessively low. I happen to have another identical BMW of the same year and same mileage having exactly the same problem (filing separate complaint).

LUCKILY THE HEADLINER WAS CLOSED SO THE GLASS DID NOT ENTER THE CABIN. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US FOR AT LEAST 1 MILE AND NO OVERPASSES OR ROCKS THAT I SAW OR HEARD HITTING THE VEHICLE. Brought my car in for a starter recall picked it up next day and drove home then came out to turn my vehicle on again and it wouldn’t start. Burning smell from engine bay as well. Returned the car they inspected it and told me a faulty starter. When I brought the car in it was in perfect working condition I only brought it for the recall. I was then held accountable for 25% of repair costs.

Here’s a strong version that sounds frustrated but still credible and harder to dismiss: I’ve owned many vehicles over the years, and this BMW has been, without question, the most problematic car I’ve ever had. The list of issues has been absurd for a vehicle in this price range and from a brand that markets itself as a premium luxury manufacturer. The sunroof failed, I’ve had multiple tire blowouts under normal driving conditions, the drive bar/suspension was bent from what should have been a routine road bump, the engine oil housing/compone…

While driving through an intersection and making a left turn, a failure of the engine water pump pulley caused the pulley to break apart. This led to damage to the coolant line and tensioner, sudden coolant loss, and the serpentine belt slipping off. The failure occurred mid-turn, causing the vehicle to skid and momentarily lose steering control. I narrowly avoided a collision with an oncoming vehicle that was stopped at a red light. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, where mechanics confirmed that the water pump pulley had …

Oil pump appears to have failed. Told plastic components inside pump. BMW issued a new part number and changed pump to all metal internals. This is standard on later production dates now. Pump failure causes engine failure and oil gauge failure to read out. Head gasket replacement which may or may not be related.

Started as low creaking noise coming from front left wheel. Slow speeds, over small bumps. Over time (one month), creaking noises became louder and more frequent. At that time, steering was starting to feel stiff when turning to the left. Taken to 2 BMW dealerships who said it was just a noise and that both tie rods would have to be replaced. Upon further investigation, these noises and handling are a result of the torque being too tight at the factory upon manufacturer.
