25V480000 · Communication: Auto Crash Notification
Reported: 2025-07-25 (July 25, 2025) · Model years: 2025
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 F 900 GS, F 800 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure, R 1300 GS, S 1000 RR, S 1000 R, and K 1600 GT vehicles equipped with the optional emergency call system. The emergency call system (eCall) may have been deactivated due to a software programming error.
Consequence: In an emergency, first responders may not receive notification of the crash or emergency location, increasing the risk of injury to riders.
Remedy: The electronic control unit software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed September 12, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The contact owns a 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH on the highway in congestive traffic with the adaptive cruise control activated. The contact then stated that the motorcycle abruptly slow down as an unknown warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the edge of a vehicle may have possibly entered his lane prior which may have triggered the abrupt slow down; however, the contact was uncertain if that were the case. A fellow motorist alerted to the conta…
The headlight on the motorcycle is not fit for night riding. The factory setting provides an OK low beam, however, the high beam is pointed at the clouds. Adjusting the light to bring the high beam down to an acceptable level points the low beam so low that you can only see 10 feet in front of you. The options are driving blind or blinding others; neither is safe.

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
No selected model years have a complete observation window. Choose an eligible year or a shorter window.
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
