Reported: 2024-07-26 (July 26, 2024) · Model years: 2024
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 R 1300 GS motorcycles. The housing for the starter motor relay may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in a damaged relay that can overheat.
Consequence: An overheated electrical relay increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the starter relay and update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 23, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
Reported: 2025-07-25 (July 25, 2025) · Model years: 2025
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 F 900 GS, F 800 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure, R 1300 GS, S 1000 RR, S 1000 R, and K 1600 GT vehicles equipped with the optional emergency call system. The emergency call system (eCall) may have been deactivated due to a software programming error.
Consequence: In an emergency, first responders may not receive notification of the crash or emergency location, increasing the risk of injury to riders.
Remedy: The electronic control unit software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed September 12, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Component/System: Clutch assembly (friction plates/engagement mechanism) While riding my 2024 BMW R1300GS with approximately 3,000 miles on the odometer, the clutch suddenly failed while climbing a rocky hillside trail. The clutch stopped engaging entirely, which caused an immediate loss of power to the rear wheel and resulted in a crash. Safety Risk: This failure created a serious safety hazard. The loss of power occurred on a steep, rocky slope, and I could have easily fallen off the side of the hill when the motorcycle lost traction and st…

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
No selected model years have a complete observation window. Choose an eligible year or a shorter window.
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
