POWER TRAIN FAILURE: THE FINAL DRIVE BEARINGS FAILED AT ABOUT 29000 MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED BY ME DURING THE NORMAL MAINTENANCE AND FLUID CHANGES. THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE METAL FLAKES IN THE FINAL DRIVE FLUID, INDICATIVE OF THE INITIAL STAGE OF BEARING FAILURE. THE BEARINGS WERE INDEED FAILING AND I HAD THE FINAL DRIVE REPAIRED AT A BMW REPAIR FACILITY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH PARALEVER DRIVE BMW MOTORCYCLES. *TR

THE TIRES WERE ALWAYS INFLATED AT THE PRESSURES RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURERS. THE FRONT WHEEL WOULD BEND BECAUSE OF ITS THREE SPOKE DESIGN AND THE SOFT ALLOW USED. REPLACEMENT WAS ORIGINALLY $600 PLUS LABOR AND LATER, THE PRICE WAS DROPPED TO $400 PLUST LABOR. THE COMPANY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE THREE OTHER MOTORCYCLES, USING THEM TO TRAVEL THE SAME ROUTE AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BENT FRONT WHEELS WITH ANY OF THEM. *AK

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
