Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

20V647000 · Back Over Prevention:Display Function | Electrical System: Instrument Cluster/Panel

Reported: 2020-10-21 (October 21, 2020) · Model years: 2019

Braun Ambulances (Braun) is recalling certain 2019 Chief XL Type I and 2019-2020 Chief XL Type III, 2018-2020 Express Plus Type I and 2019 Express Type III, Liberty Type I, Raider Type I and Super Chief ambulances. The lighting and HVAC display may lock up affecting functions like the back up camera, emergency warning lights, or patient care devices depending on the application.

Consequence: The vehicle operator may not be able to read the LCD screen or use the buttons or both. If the LCD display appears blank, emergency personnel may not have immediate access to the functions and controls operated by the LCD screen which could delay emergency operations, increasing the risk of injury to a patient or increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Braun will notify owners and dealers will remove the defective Vista IV and replace with a new Vista IV, free of charge. The recall began December 18, 2020. Owners may contact Braun Ambulance customer service at 1-877-344-9990.

24V063000 · Electrical System:Wiring

Reported: 2024-02-01 (February 1, 2024) · Model years: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.

Consequence: Overloaded electrical circuits can overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

Remedy: Weldon will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 28, 2024. Owners may contact Akron Brass customer service at 1-800-228-1161 or Braun customer service at 1-800-488-0359. Braun's number for this recall is 2024-01.

Braun Ambulances (Braun) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chief XL Type I, Chief XL Type III, Express Plus Type I, Express Type III, and Liberty Type I vehicles. The high contact nodes may cause the module mounted turn signals, backup alarm, brake lights, and rearview camera to turn on intermittently or fail to activate.

Consequence: Failure of vital visual systems reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the node and update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 26, 2024. Owners may contact Braun customer service at 419-232-7020. Braun's number for this recall is 2024-2.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
