79V006000 · Visibility:Defroster/Defogger/Hvac System

Reported: 1979-01-09 (January 9, 1979) · Model years: 1977, 1978, 1979

VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 103, "WINDSHIELD DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING SYSTEMS", DUE TO A MISSING DEFROSTER AIR OUTLET HOLE IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. BECAUSE THE VEHICLES HAVE ONLY ONE OUTLET HOLE INSTEAD OF TWO, AS REQUIRED, AN INADEQUATE SUPPLY OF DEFROSTER AIR REACHES THE WINDSHIELD. THIS RESULTS IN A LONGER TIME PERIOD FOR COMPLETE DEFROSTING.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL DRILL THE NECESSARY 3/8 INCH HOLE AT NO COST TO OWNER.

80V019000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Filler Pipe And Cap

Reported: 1980-02-26 (February 26, 1980) · Model years: 1978, 1979, 1980

CERTAIN VEHICLES MAY FAIL TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION FROM THE REAR, THE FUEL FILLER TUBE MAY BE CUT BY CONTACTING THE FRAME REAR CROSSMEMBER.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A PROTECTIVE SLEEVE OVER THE EXISTING FUEL FILLER TUBE AT NO COST TO OWNER.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
