The contact owns a 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the braking system suddenly activated causing the vehicle to abruptly decelerate when another vehicle passed by. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two separate occasions while being overtaken by another vehicle on the passenger’s and driver’s sides. The brake pedal can easily become disconnected from the electronic brake booster behind the firewall. When this happens, it stops all driver aids. The safety issue is it can happen while driving, and if using adaptive cruise control, or GM super cruise, if one pedal driving is on, it can without warning substantially slow the car, and has the potential to cause an accident. Its not too far to think the dislodging can cause the boost arm to be placed in a position to prevent full brakeing either. I have not taken it in because it is a design f…

My wife had just parked the vehicle in our garage and had plugged it into the charger. She walked to the back of the vehicle to open the rear hatch and as she was raising the hatch she felt an electrical shock up her arm, it was strong enough that she immediately came into the house holding her elbow. It couldn't have been static electricity, she was already in contact with the vehicle when the shock occurred, the humidity was very high as it had been raining, plus the vehicle should be grounded through the charging plug. The main infotainment screen provides the critical safety rear view display screen for the rear view camera. This is a legally required function for this vehicle, a 2027 Chevrolet Bolt RS. The failure of the screen means that a clear view towards the back of the vehicle is unavailable. Reversing without the display is hazardous and may result in hitting an object, animal, or person. Online Chevrolet customer service suggested a soft reset. This did not solve the problem. The problem has been intermittent, but is now permanent. The vehicle, whic…

Steering After turning, the steering wheel will not return to center on its own. You have to manually return the steering wheel to the center. This can cause you to steer off the road and hit pedestrians. The steering also will not align even after new tire and an alignment. The car will not drive straight. This can also cause accidents and driver fatigue. There are no warning lights.

2022 Chevy Bolt, less than 10,000 miles. Problem began 11/24/23. Steering wheel locks up at low speeds, gives warning "Steering Assistance reduced" at higher speeds. At low speeds, steering wheel turns only a small amount before it clicks and stops. There is a clicking, or a light clunk, sound that *I THINK* is coming from the front passenger side of the car. The sound only occurs when accelerating, most often from a stop but not always, and occasionally when breaking. It is not a repeated click. As everyone knows right now, the Bolt has been recalled due to fire safety issues with the battery. THE BOLT EV HAS A DANGEROUS DESIGN PROBLEM WHEN USING REGENERATIVE BRAKING. YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW OR STOP. THE CAR SLOWS IN RELATION TO HOW QUICKLY YOU RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE BRAKE LIGHT ONLY COMES ON WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS FULLY RELEASED. THE CAR WILL STOP QUICKLY AT THAT POINT WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON DURING THE LAST FEW SECONDS UNTIL AT A FULL STOP, WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE REMAINS AT A FULL STOP WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LIGHTS ON ONCE YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN STOPPED YOU …

I have had people following me, and almost hit me when stopped at a stop sign, or waiting to turn left, because the brake lights go off while the car is still being held to some degree by electric motor braking. When driving the car in L mode, one pedal driving, the brake lights come on when decelerating, but when stopped they turn off. The issue is, there is some electrical braking applied when stopped at a stop sign or light, even with no foot on the brake pedal. The car will hold on a slight grade when in L, with no foot on the brake pedal…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
