Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

89V127000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Lever And Linkage:Column Shift

Reported: 1989-07-31 (July 31, 1989) · Model years: 1989

THE SHIFT LEVER MAY NOT DROP INTO PARK DETENT WHEN PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION.

93V214000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components

Reported: 1993-12-14 (December 14, 1993) · Model years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993

THE FRONT LEFT BRAKE PIPE CHAFES AGAINST THE POWER STEERING HOSE WHICH WEARS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE PIPE. THIS CAUSES A POTENTIAL LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID RESULTING IN LOSS OF FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM OPERATIONS.

Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS THE BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS OF THE VEHICLEDIMINISHES AND MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW BRAKE PIPE WITH SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION.

94V183000 · Parking Brake

Reported: 1994-09-27 (September 27, 1994) · Model years: 1990

THE AUTO APPLY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILS TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKES AFTER ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO RELEASE THEM OR THE SYSTEM MAY AUTOMATICALLY APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IN EITHER CASE, IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT NOTICE THE TELLTALE RED BRAKE LIGHT AND STOP THE VEHICLE, THE SYSTEM WILL FAIL.

Consequence: IF THE OPERATOR PARKS THE VEHICLE, APPLIES THE PARKING BRAKE WITH THE FAILED AUTO APPLY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM, THE PARKING BRAKES WILL NOT SET AND THE VEHICLE CAN ROLL INADVERTENTLY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE COMPONENTS OF THE AUTO APPLY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM, BLEED THE HYDRAULIC POWER SYSTEM, AND ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
