Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

79V232000 · Structure

Reported: 1979-10-22 (October 22, 1979) · Model years: 1980

THE DEFECT INVOLVES THE POTENTIAL FOR EXHAUST GAS (CONTAINING CARBON MONOXIDE) ENTRY INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHICH CAN OCCUR AS A RESULT OF IMPROPERLY RETAINED PLASTIC SEALING PLUGS IN THE REAR QUARTER PANEL/TRUNK AREA OF THE VEHICLE. CARBON MONOXIDE IS A TOXIC GAS WHICH IN SUFFICIENT QUANTITY AND EXPOSURE TIME IS POTENTIALLY LETHAL.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL IMPROVED QUARTER PANEL SEALING PLUGS WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

79V233000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Springs

Reported: 1979-10-23 (October 23, 1979) · Model years: 1980

INCREASED FRICTION EXPERIENCED IN OPERATION OR SERVICING OF THE SYSTEM MAY RESULT IN A TOTAL FRICTION LEVEL EXCEEDING THE FORCE CAPABILITY OF THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS. THIS MAY PREVENT THE THROTTLE FROM RETURNING PROPERLY TO A CLOSED POSITION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, INSTALL RETURN SPRINGS WHICH WILL PERFORM CORRECTLY, AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

80V051000 · Exterior Lighting

Reported: 1980-05-02 (May 2, 1980) · Model years: 1980

VEHICLES MAY NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT". ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE FRONT PARK AND TURN SIGNAL LAMPS MAY CONTAIN INCORRECT LAMP BULB SOCKET ASSEMBLIES. ENGINEERING TESTING DETERMINED THAT THESE LAMPS DO NOT PRODUCE A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF LIGHT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE TURN AND PARK LAMP BULB SOCKET ASSEMBLIES WITH THE CORRECT ASSEMBLIES FREE OF CHARGE.

81V055000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Carburetor System

Reported: 1981-05-05 (May 5, 1981) · Model years: 1981

ENGINE MAY LOSE POWER OR STALL DUE TO CARBURETOR FLOODING. THIS IS CAUSED BY A POOR ELECTRICAL GROUND ON THE CARBURETOR FUEL BOWL VENT SOLENOID. VEHICLES MAY ALSO HAVE DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS WHILE THE ENGINE IS WARMING UP IN COLD WEATHER. THESE PROBLEMS INCLUDE ENGINE MISSING, SAGS, AND HESITATION. THIS IS CAUSED BY A STICKING CARBURETOR OXYGEN FEEDBACK SOLENOID.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT CARBURETOR AND IF NECESSARY, THE BOWL VENT SOLENOID WILL BE REPAIRED BY RESOLDERING (RECONNECTING) THE EXTERNAL ELECTRICAL CONNECTION FREE OF CHARGE. IF APPLICABLE, THE OXYGEN FEEDBACK SENSOR WILL BE REPLACED.

81V111000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1981-09-22 (September 22, 1981) · Model years: 1981, 1982

THE AUTOMATIC SPEED CONTROL SWITCH MAY STICK IN THE "RESUME" POSITION RESTRICTING RETURN MOVEMENT. THIS WILL NOT ALLOW THE NORMAL BRAKE PEDAL OPERATION TO DEACTIVATE THE SYSTEM.

Remedy: THE SHIELD PORTION OF THE "RESUME" SLIDE LEVER IN THE SPEED CONTROL UNIT WILL BE REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
