Reported: 1977-03-11 (March 11, 1977) · Model years: 1977
THE FRONT DRIVING AXLE WHEEL HUBS ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY FAIL DUE TO IMPROPERLY MACHINED SPINDLES. THIS ERROR MAY PREVENT THE WHEEL HUB AND BEARING FROM SEATING PROPERLY, CAUSING BEARING FAILURE AND EVENTUAL HUB FRACTURE. ALSO, THE FRONT WHEEL COULD DETACH DUE TO HUB FRACTURE.
Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, INSTALL A NEW FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.
NHTSA campaign record ↗77V212000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1977-11-28 (November 28, 1977) · Model years: 1977, 1978
THE FUEL TUBES (FUEL TANK TO PUMP) ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY BE ROUTED SUCH THAT TUBE TO UNDERBODY REINFORCEMENT FLANGE INTERFERENCE MAY RESULT DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. TUBE ABRASION CAUSED BY SUCH INTERFERENCE MAY RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE.
Remedy: DEALER WILL REROUTE THE FUEL TUBE OR INSTALL A NEW FUEL TUBE, IF DAMAGED, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.
NHTSA campaign record ↗78V036000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly
Reported: 1978-02-17 (February 17, 1978) · Model years: 1977, 1978
Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK VENT SYSTEMS FOR BLOCKAGE AND CORRECT, IF NECESSARY. FUEL TANKS WILL BE INSPECTED FOR CRACKING OF THE FRONT PANEL AND REPLACED, IF NECESSARY.
NHTSA campaign record ↗78V038000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar
Reported: 1978-02-17 (February 17, 1978) · Model years: 1978
AN INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CONTAINING A MISMATCHED POT COUPLING ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES. THIS COUPLING MAY HAVE AN OVERSIZED SERRATION DIAMETER. AN OVERSIZED SERRATION COULD PREVENT THE COUPLING FROM ADEQUATELY TIGHTENING ONTO THE GEAR OR SHAFT SPLINES.
Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, INSTALL A REPLACEMENT SHAFT COUPLING.
NHTSA campaign record ↗78V141000 · Steering:Hydraulic Power Assist:Hose, Piping, And Connections
Reported: 1978-06-14 (June 14, 1978) · Model years: 1978
IMPROPER ROUTING OF THE "HYDROBOOST" HYDRAULIC SYSTEM HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLY COULD ALLOW A TUBULAR SECTION TO CONTACT THE FRAME SIDE RAIL. ABRASION FROM THE CONTACT COULD RESULT, CAUSING A LEAK IN THE HOSE ASSEMBLY.
Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REROUTE "HYDROBOOST" HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLIES AND ANY DAMAGED HOSES WILL BE REPLACED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗78V188000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1978-08-29 (August 29, 1978) · Model years: 1978
DUE TO IMPROPER MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION THE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID RETURN HOSE MAY NOT BE CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING THE TEMPERATURES AND/OR PRESSURES EXPERIENCED WITH THE HYDRO-BOOST SYSTEM. ALSO, THE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN MISLOCATED, ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO CONTACT THE FRAME SIDE RAIL. ABRASION RESULTING FROM CONTINUED CONTACT ALONG WITH IMPROPER MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION MAY CAUSE PRESSURE HOSE FAILURE. EITHER OF THESE CONDITIONS MAY CAUSE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID LEAKAGE, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR THE STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS. COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING OR BRAKING WILL NOT OCCUR SINCE BOTH SYSTEMS WOULD REVERT TO MANUAL OPERATION.
Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A HYDRO-BOOST FLUID RETURN HOSE CONSTRUCTED FORM THE PROPER MATERIAL, POSITIONING THE HOSE ASSEMBLY TO ENSURE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN IT AND THE FRAME SIDE RAIL.
NHTSA campaign record ↗87V194000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Gear Position Indication (Prndl)
Reported: 1987-12-26 (December 26, 1987) · Model years: 1988
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MAY CONTAIN A PARK SPRAG ROD ASSEMBLY THAT MAY STICK IN THE TOOTH BUTT UNENGAGED POSITION.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL WITH THEGEAR SHIFT LEVER IN PARK POSITION.
Remedy: ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES WILL HAVE THE PARK SPRAG ROD ASSEMBLIES REPLACED.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1978: 0 complaints · 1988: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |

| 1978 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1978 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| 1988 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
