Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

21V335000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 2021-05-11 (May 11, 2021) · Model years: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2015-2021 Monster 821, 2014-2021 Monster 1200 S/STD, and 2016-2019 Monster 1200 R motorcycles. The rear brake hoses may be susceptible to heat damage.

Consequence: Damaged brake hoses may cause the rear brakes to fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 12, 2021. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446.

17V812000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Master Cylinder

Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017) · Model years: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2015-2018 1299 motorcycles (including STD, S, FE and SL models), Monster 1200 motorcycles (including S and R models), Multistrada motorcycles (including S and PP models), 2015-2017 Panigale R, 2016-2018 XDaviel S motorcycles and 2017-2018 Scrambler 800 Café Racer motorcycles. These motorcycles are equipped with Brembo front brake master cylinders that may fail.

Consequence: If the front brake master cylinder fails, the loss of front braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder piston, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 15, 2018. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696.

Reported: 2018-11-27 (November 27, 2018) · Model years: 2017, 2018, 2019

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the gear lever shift knob tightness, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 14, 2019. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446. Ducati's number for this recall is SRV-RCL-18-007.

Remedy: Dealers will install new rear brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 28, 2021. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446.

FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE BIKE (PURCHASE NEW) THE REAR BRAKE WORKS FOR 1-2 MONTHS AND THEN DOES NOT WORK AT ALL (MOVING OR STATIONARY). THE SHOP HAS TO BLEED ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND SUGGESTED THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE BRAKE FLUID DELIVERY SYSTEM, BUT THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIX PERMANENTLY.

WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT. WHEN I ASKED IF THIS IS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE THEY SAID YES THEY'VE HAD A FEW. ALSO THEY SAID…

Rear brake is sinking to the exhaust pipe and not stopping the motorcycle. The previous year motorcycle I currently own has been recalled for the rear brake hoses, but I am having the same problem with my 2019 Ducati Monster 1200. This is a safety hazard and I want to have my dealership fix this without charge.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2018 DUCATI MONSTER 1200S THAT I PURCHASED LAST YEAR NEW; THE MOTORCYCLE HAS LESS THAN 1000 MILES WHEN THE REAR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. NO BRAKE FLUID LEAK OR BRAKE PAD ISSUE SEEN. REAR BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMS OUT WITHOUT ACTUATING BRAKES. I TRADED AT 2014 DUCATI MONSTER 1200 FOR THIS BIKE AS I WAS HAVING BRAKE ISSUES EVERY YEAR WITH THAT ONE AS WELL. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME IN 4 YEARS THAT MY BRAKES COMPLETELY WENT OUT ON A RIDE.
