Reported: 2016-05-10 (May 10, 2016) · Model years: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016

Elpers Truck Equipment (Elpers) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Peterbilt 337, International 4300, 4400, Maxforce, Dodge 5500, and Ford F-450, and F-550 trucks manufactured April 4, 2013, to January 22, 2016 and equipped with IMT cranes, models 6000, 7500, 8600, 9500, 10000, 12000, and 14000. The affected cranes have a valve bank cover that may crack and fall from the crane while the crane is being transported.

Consequence: If the valve bank cover detaches from the crane it could be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Elpers will notify owners, and dealers will replace the valve bank cover, with a thicker gauge cover, free of charge. The recall began on May 25, 2016. Owners may contact Elpers' customer service at 1-877-244-4596. Elpers' number for this recall is TB2016001 - IMT dist.

I PURCHASED A 2013 INTERNATIONAL 4300 IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR (2017). WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 495, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND IN DOING SO MY TRUCK STARTED TO JERK AND SHAKE. I WASN'T ABLE TO GO OVER 25/MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING RUSH-HOUR. MY TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL INTERNATIONAL TRUCK REPAIR SHOP TO ACCESS THE PROBLEM. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE TAKEN OUT AND REBUILT DUE TO LINERS 1-6. I HAVEN'T HAD THIS TRUCK A YEAR YET! I ALSO FOUND OUT FROM THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THE EXACT LINERS HAD BEEN REPLACED ON THE TRUCK IN …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
