Reported: 1981-07-20 (July 20, 1981) · Model years: 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974
VEHICLES MAY BE SUSCEPTABLE TO HEAVY RUSTING IN STRUCTURALLY SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THIS CONDITION MAY IMPAIR THE ATTACHMENT TO THE BODY OF: 1) THE FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARMS, 2) THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER TO WHICH THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS ARE ATTACHED, 3) THE STEERING BOX AND IDLER ARM MOUNTING AND 4) THE REAR TRAILING ARM WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE INTERNAL CROSS MEMBER BELOW THE REAR SEAT AND TO THE REAR AXLE. UNDERCARRIAGE CORROSION IS ACCELERATED BY EXPOSURE TO DE-ICING SALTS.
Remedy: ALL OWNERS OF 1970-71 VEHICLES WILL BE SENT LETTERS ADVISING THEM OF THE PROBLEM. DUE TO THE AGE OF THESE VEHICLES OWNERS ARE NOT ENTITLED TO FREE INSPECTION OR REMEDY. 1972-74 VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED WITHIN 120 DAYS OF OWNER NOTIFICATION. IF DAMAGE FROM RUSTING IS DETERMINED TO IMPAIR ATTACHMENTS IN ANY OF THE FOUR CRITICAL UNDERBODY LOCATIONS, DEALER WILL OFFER TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗79V060000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1979-02-28 (February 28, 1979) · Model years: 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979
A PLASTIC TUBE COVERING PART OF THE METAL BRAKE LINE FOR THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM MAY ALLOW WATER TO ACCUMULATE. THIS WATER WILL OXIDIZE THE BRAKE LINE. OXIDATION CAN CAUSE DETERIORATION OR POSSIBLE BREAKAGE OF THE BRAKE LINE. THIS CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF EFFICIENCY OF THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM AND CAN IMPAIR THE TOTAL BRAKING CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: THE DEFECTIVE PORTION OF THE METAL BRAKE LINE WILL BE REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1978: 0 complaints · 1979: 0 complaints

|---|---|---|---|
| 1978 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1979 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
