Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

82V027000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1982-03-26 (March 26, 1982) · Model years: 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES DO NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE STANDARD NO. 124, "ACCELERATOR CONTROL SYSTEMS", DUE TO FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE TO RETURN COMPLETELY TO IDLE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS WITH ONE OF THE TWO ACCELERATOR CONTROL RETURN SPRINGS INOPERATIVE.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND MODIFY THE THROTTLE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
83V033000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Drum

Reported: 1983-03-22 (March 22, 1983) · Model years: 1982

SOME OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH LEFT REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES THAT WERE INCORRECTLY PRODUCED AND MAY HAVE ONE OR TWO AUTOMATIC BRAKE ADJUSTERS THAT WERE INTENDED FOR RIGHT REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES. THE ADJUSTER WORKS BACKWARDS AND INCREASES THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE LINING AND DRUM, INSTEAD OF MAINTAINING IT.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LEFT REAR BRAKE ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY AT NO CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
87V059000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Springs

Reported: 1987-04-27 (April 27, 1987) · Model years: 1987

DIESEL ENGINE GOVEERNOR LEVER ASSEMBLIES MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED SO THAT ONE OR MORE OF THREE RETAINING PRONGS MAY NOT BE ENGAGED IN THE GOVERNOR LEVER PIVOT SHAFTS.

Consequence: SEPARATION OF ACCELERATOR LINKAGE AND RETURN SPRINGSCOULD OCCUR, CAUSING THE TIME FOR THE ENGINE TO RETURN TO IDLE FROM AN OPENTHROTTLE POSITION TO SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE.

Remedy: REPLACE GOVERNOR LEVER ASSEMBLIES.

WHILE DRIVING MY 1999 FORD TRITON V-10 POWERED C-CLASS MOTORHOME IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD BANG. AFTER THE BANG IT CONTINUED TO RATTLE BADLY AND MIS-FIRE. WORKED MY WAY ACROSS TRAFFIC AND STOPPED IN A NO PARKING ZONE FOR 2 HRS AWAITING A TOW TRUCK. WE WERE IN A FAIRLY UN-SAFE POSITION, AS THE SHOULDER WAS LIMITED AND IT WAS ON THE EXIT ROUTE FOR THE CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY JUST AFTER A NASCAR RACE. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS TOLD ME THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. I'M LEARNING THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THIS MOD…

SOME TIME AGO, MY FORD F150 WAS SENT A RECALL NOTICE; THE PROBLEM WAS THAT ONE FUEL TANK WAS SENDING FUEL TO THE OTHER. I WAS TOLD IT WAS OK. THE EVENT IS STILL OCCURING WITH FUEL SPILLING FROM THE FILL PORT. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE MATTER REEVALUATED. THE DEALER TO WHICHI TOOK THE TRUCK IS BELL FORD.*AK

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
