82V119000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Cables

Reported: 1982-12-07 (December 7, 1982) · Model years: 1981, 1982, 1983

THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH AN INCORRECT END CLAMP ON THE HAND THROTTLE ACTUATING CABLE. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, PERTAINING TO THE CLAMP-TO-THROTTLE CABLE ORIENTATION AND DISTANCES OF THE CABLE TO GOVERNOR SHAFT, THE THROTTLE CABLE END CLAMP MAY INTERFERE WITH THE OUTBOARD ACCELERATOR.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT HAND THROTTLE CLAMP FOR INTERFERENCE AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THESE CLAMPS FREE OF CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
83V016000 · Electrical System:Wiring

Reported: 1983-02-15 (February 15, 1983) · Model years: 1983

ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE WIRING ASSEMBLY TO THE FLOOR MOUNTED HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH MAY BE TOO TIGHT; SHOULD WIRES DISCONNECT, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT OPERATE.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL MODIFY THE DIMMER SWITCH WIRING WITH A WIRE EXTENSION ASSEMBLY AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
84V135000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Power Assist:Vacuum:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1984-10-23 (October 23, 1984) · Model years: 1984

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER SUPPLY HOSES THAT ARE LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND MAY CHAFE AND DEVELOP HEAT DAMAGE DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. CHAFING AND HEAT INDUCED DETERIORATION OF A HOSE DUE TO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE MANIFOLD MAY CAUSE THE HOSE TO WEAR. A SUBSEQUENT RUPTURE WILL RESULT IN PUMP FLUID LOSS.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL RELOCATE AND REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER SUPPLY TUBE AND HOSE AS NECESSARY AT NO COST TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
91V071000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1991-05-01 (May 1, 1991) · Model years: 1990, 1991

THE THROTTLE CABLE WHICH RUNS FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO THE GOVERNOR ASSEMBLY HOUSING MAY HAVE BEEN KINKED DURING ASSEMBLY, CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE CABLE HOUSING INNER LINING. THIS COULD RESULT IN EITHER FRACTURE OR STICKING OF THE CABLE.

Consequence: IF THE THROTTLE CABLE FRACTURES, ENGINE SPEED WILL RETURNTO IDLE. IF THE CABLE JAMS OR STICKS, THE ENGINE WILL REMAIN AT THE SPEED ATWHICH IT WAS RUNNING WHEN THE JAMMING OCCURRED. A STUCK THROTTLE COULD RESULT INLOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy: REPLACE THE GOVERNOR ASSEMBLIES, WHICH INCLUDE THE THROTTLE CABLE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
