78V226000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan

Reported: 1978-10-17 (October 17, 1978) · Model years: 1976, 1977

THE ENGINE COOLING FAN BLADES MAY CRACK UNDER HIGH SPEED OPERATING CONDITIONS. FRAGMENTS MAY SEPARATE AND DAMAGE THE ENGINE COMPONENTS, AND IF THE HOOD IS OPEN AND THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, BLADE FRAGMENTS COULD FLY OUT FROM THE VEHICLE AND INJURE NEARBY PERSONS.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL, WHERE NECESSARY, INSTALL A NEW FAN FREE OF CHARGE.

77V140000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Lever And Linkage:Column Shift

Reported: 1977-09-13 (September 13, 1977) · Model years: 1977

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE FITTED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMNS CONTAINING TRANSMISSION CONTROL INSERTS INTENDED FOR TRUCKS RATHER THAN PASSENGER VEHICLES. THIS MAY CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR POINTER TO BE MISALIGNED AND THE POSSIBILITY OF STARTING THE ENGINE WHEN THE SELECTOR IS BETWEEN THE NEUTRAL (N) AND DRIVE (D) DETENTS AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CONTROL INSERT, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

77V146000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Filler Pipe And Cap

Reported: 1977-09-15 (September 15, 1977) · Model years: 1977

THE FUEL FILLER CAPS ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY FAIL TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". IN THE EVENT OF A REAR-END COLLISION, FUEL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR.

Remedy: OWNER WILL BE SENT AN IMPROVED FUEL FILLER CAP TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CAP. OWNER MAY INSTALL IT HIMSELF, OR HAVE IT INSTALLED BY DEALER, WITHOUT CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
77V218000 · Steering:Gear Box (Other Than Rack And Pinion)

Reported: 1977-12-14 (December 14, 1977) · Model years: 1977

ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, THE MANUAL STEERING GEARS MAY CONTAIN STEERING GEAR RECIRCULATORY BALLS THAT COULD FRACTURE. THIS FRACTURING IS A RESULT OF IMPROPER HEAT-TREATMENT DURING MANUFACTURE AND CAN EVENTUALLY CAUSE INCREASED STEERING EFFORT.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE BALL BEARINGS OF THE STEERING GEAR, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
84V078000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan

Reported: 1984-06-26 (June 26, 1984) · Model years: 1978, 1979

BLADES MAY CRACK AND MAY, OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, LOOSEN FROM FAN ASSEMBLY.

Remedy: FAN ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
79V117000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Pedals And Linkages

Reported: 1979-05-15 (May 15, 1979) · Model years: 1979

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH BRAKE PUSH-ROD TO BRAKE PEDAL RETAINING PINS WHICH WERE NOT HEAT-TREATED AS SPECIFIED. THIS COULD ALLOW THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE PUSH-ROD.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SUSPECT BRAKE RETAINING PIN.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
79V272000 · Visibility:Windshield

Reported: 1979-12-27 (December 27, 1979) · Model years: 1979

WINDSHIELDS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES WITHOUT THE APPLICATION OF A BUTYL PRIMER ON THE MOUNTING SURFACE OF THE GLAZING. THE PRIMER IS REQUIRED TO ENSURE ADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE WINDSHIELD TO ITS OPENING FLANGE. THIS CONSTITUTES A NON-COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 212, "WINDSHIELD MOUNTING".

Remedy: DEALER WILL REINSTALL THE WINDSHIELD CORRECTLY WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V151000 · Equipment:Other:Labels

Reported: 1981-12-23 (December 23, 1981) · Model years: 1982

INCORRECT INFORMATION ON TIRE PLACARDS CONSTITUTES A FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS". THE INFORMATION CONCERNING TIRE SIZES AND INFLATION PRESSURES IS APPLICABLE TO BOTH TWO AND FOUR DOOR SEDANS. THE STATEMENT COVERS FOUR DOOR BUT FAILS TO SPECIFY TWO DOOR SEDANS.

Remedy: REVISED PLACARDS WILL BE INSTALLED BY OWNERS, OR BY DEALERS WITHOUT CHARGE.

82V031000 · Fuel System, Other:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1982-04-06 (April 6, 1982) · Model years: 1982

SOME OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED PROPANE FUEL SYSTEM FITTINGS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT; FUEL LEAKAGE COULD OCCUR.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT, REPLACE, AND SEAL CERTAIN FUEL SYSTEM CONNECTIONS AT NO COST TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
83V050000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Mounting

Reported: 1983-05-04 (May 4, 1983) · Model years: 1982

SOME OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH IMPROPERLY WELDED FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAPS. UNDER CERTAIN COLLISION CONDITIONS, THESE STRAPS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE FUEL TANK AND LEAKS COULD DEVELOP.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK RETAINING STRAPS FOR TYPE OF WELDS AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THEM AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
