Owner report 11485485 · 2022-09-20 (September 20, 2022)

Vehicle wouldn't start, had to jump start it under the hood. 12V battery under rear seat showed sufficient voltage. Took vehicle to dealer and they reproduced and confirmed the conditions. Vehicle is still at the dealership awaiting repair. Suspect faulty soldered terminal in the battery wiring harness. Safety issue if similar faulty soldered joints exist throughout the wiring harness or electrical system causing more catastrophic conditions, i.e. loss of power while driving.

While driving on the highway the engine would not go over 50% power, there was no check engine light and the truck felt significantly slower. When I exited the highway the problem persisted and the truck was slow even on city streets. I completed my 100mi trip and when I got home I turned the truck off. 30 minutes later I took it for a short trip and and since then there's been no issues. The loss of power is unexplained and concerning, it would have been difficult to merge on the highway or drive without knowing if my vehicle had full power…

With the initial instance (it has happened 3 separate times), I was traveling on the interstate on the way back from Tennessee to Georgia and stepped on the accelerator (basically punched it) to get around a big rig, all of a sudden I get a "tow truck" icon on my dash and the accelerator is unresponsive, so I think I was in electric mode only if that. Fortunately, I was close to an exit and was able to coast to a stop in a parking lot. I put it in park, whereby the shifter dial then locked into park, could not change it. My wife read a blog on …

The truck shudders when turning off the ICE and switching to electric. It has progressively gotten worse since around 5000 miles. Group research on online forums suggests this is the damper on the flywheel. Because it's progressively getting worse, even at 8000 miles, I am concerned it will leave me stranded when the whole transmission blows apart. It makes an awful noise that sounds like grinding when the shuddering occurs. It does not happen every time the engine turns off, but the entire transition between electric and ICE is extremely rough…

The vehicle has grade assist braking, which cannot be disabled. At speeds below 35mph this braking is too strong and cannot be properly controlled with throttle input. The effect is that, when going downhill, if you release pressure from the gas pedal, the vehicle will abruptly decelerate by several mph with no illumination of the brake light. In traffic, in hilly areas, this is extremely dangerous and has led to several instances of nearly being rear ended. Furthermore, the only way to avoid slowing down is to accelerate. When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. The last time it happened I looked under the hood while it was dark out and what appears to be a catalytic converter on the back side of the motor was glowing red hot. There are high voltage lines that run within inches of this (among other things) and I am concerned there is a fire risk.

The brakes sporatically cause you to jerk to a stop when you are all almost completely stop (under 5MPH). CV joint axle front right and left. Vehicle shaking upon acceleration and getting worse. This issue is very concerning when driving on the highway. CV axles in the 2022 Ford Maverick Fail Prematurely: This is a known and common problem, with no recall, TSB, or additional warranty from Ford. This results in severe shuttering during acceleration, and especially heavy loads (e.g. highway on-ramp). Additionally, the failure wears out other steering components, and potentially tire tread. The premature failure of this part (CV axle) creates additional risk for vehicle occupants, and should be remediated.

The lights and infotainment was still on but the car had no power to accelerate. Had this been on the highway I would have been in a collision since my car went to the right very quick. Once car was stopped could not shift to neutral.

Eninge started knocking, flashed warnings to pull over immediately. I did and had the vehicle towed to Westway Ford in Irving. Their investigation showed the engine needs a full rebuild and they are claiming it is not covered under warranty. They shared pictures & a written repair estimate. Doing an analysis of the pictures they took and their description of what happened, combined with what I experienced and observed, this appears to be a textbook case of the behavior and outcome of the mechanical failure described in recall 23S27.

At around 27K miles the two front CV axles began to fail. I brought it to the Ford dealership and they confirmed that both needed to be replaced. It was a $1600 repair. There have been a lot of complaints from Ford Maverick owners who have had CV axle failures at very low miles on their vehicles. These parts typically last 100K to 150K miles and it's not unusual for them to last the lifetime of the vehicle. There is no reason both front CV axles should be failing with 27K miles on a vehicle. This should be covered by a recall.

Maverick Hybrid brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes you can brake smoothly, sometimes you cannot and the brakes will grab suddenly and lurch. Using Adaptive Cruise is miserable because the truck lurches back and forth and feels like it can't transition between friction and regenerative braking. There are no warnings on dash, truck has 1,000 miles. It is dangerous because getting more braking force than you anticipated can lead to being rear ended and not getting the brake force you anticipate can cause you to rear-end someone else.

Did not lose power, the dashboard stayed lit but showed no warnings. Vehicle would not accelerate above 10mph. This happened without warning. I pulled over and shut off the vehicle then restarted it and after that, it operated fine. If I had been driving on a highway at a higher speed I could have had a major accident. At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages.

I shut off my Maverick to get out and get some water, when I got back in my truck, it had NO power. It was as if the battery was dead. I had it jump started and drove home. In the middle of a intersection, while turning, the truck shut off completely. NO power. When this happens, you have no emergency lights and can not put it in neutral to push it off of a road. If you are on a back road with no lights, you can't turn on the hazards nor push the vehicle off the road out of traffic. It was the wiring harness that went bad. My Maverick is at the…

Purchased new 7-22-2022. On 8-10-2022 drove 14 mi, parked for 2 hours, tried to start truck, message on dash said “stop safely now “, with red triangle, check engine, battery warning lights. Tried repeatedly to start truck waiting 15 minutes each time, wouldn’t start. Used ford pass on phone to call for tow. When tow arrived 30 minutes later the truck started like normal. Drove around parking lot while tow truck waited seemed normal so I drove home. Had dealer check 12v battery on 8-12 and it was fine. Made appointment for diagnostic testing fo…

Hybrid braking system has poor and potentially dangerous modulation when at slow speeds 0-3 mph with low or medium brake effort. The transition from regenerative braking to hydraulic braking is such that in these situations the vehicle fails to slow to a stop predictably and then suddenly jerks or grabs unexpectedly. This happens often in common situations like pulling into a parking space, to a stop sign or at a drive through. Mild to medium pedal effort results in a sensation of the vehicle failing to react to you. When pressure is gradually …

I, and many other 2022 Hybrid Ford Maverick owners have noted that the braking system in this vehicle is very inconsistent when at very low speeds. When approaching a full stop, the relatively linear (relatively smooth) feedback of increasing brake pedal input suddenly transitions to a very hard jerky stop near the end of the braking. This does not always occur, but most often it does, and one has to either guess or interpret when that will happen and release pressure brake pedal at just the right moment and then repress is very very gently to …

When I shift into drive gear it hesitates to go until it kicks into the battery drive mode. When I am at a stop sign you can feel it switching over and when I go to push on the gas to go from the stop sign it doesn't go immediately until it shifts to the electric mode. When I am in a drive thru and it switching from electric to gas mode it jerks like the transmission is going to fall out

Rolling up to a stop applying gradually increasing pressure to the brake pedal, instead of slowly coming to a halt, vehicle does not react to your braking input until you apply double the pressure at which point a loud clunk from the front wheels occur (which you can feel through the steering wheel) and your wheels lock up.

The Ford Maverick Hybrid system attempts to use electrical regenerative braking at speeds that are too low to generate a braking effect. When creeping forward in stop and go traffic below 10 mph, depressing the brake pedal has zero effect on slowing the truck down. Depressing the brake pedal further does engage the hyrdaulic brakes to finally stop the vehicle. This has been a problem since I took delivery of the vehicle and I've had many close calls in traffic thanks to this defect. No warning lights are associated with this problem.

I was driving on the highway at about 70 MPH when the truck gave me a "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power" notification & the red battery light came on. The truck then had a "Pull Over Immediately" (Not 100% sure on the wording) notification on the dashboard and stopped accelerating. Once the notification popped up and the truck stopped accelerating, the air conditioning & power steering also stopped working. Truck has been going into deep sleep. Failed to start do to battery while in garage. Failed to start another time leaving me stranded. Dealership has replaced battery 2 times. I mentioned checking wiring harness, but they just replaced battery. Approximately 3 weeks after replacing battery 2nd time it is going into deep sleep mode again. I am concerned I will become stranded once again with a dead battery

I was driving East on Rte 70 near Mt. Airy, MD at approximately 2 am the morning of Sunday, Oc. 11. at approximately 65 mph. In and instant all power to the vehicle went dead. The engine stopped and all electrical components went dead. Most importantly, my lights went out, the power steering was inoperable, and the brakes went out. It was absolutely terrifying. Because of the lack of brakes, I narrowly avoided colliding with an 18-wheeler. I was able to pull the car off the road on the right side and allow the vehicle to drift to a stop (agai…

I cut the car off for a few minutes to help another driver on the side of the road. When I returned, nothing would work. I could not start the vehicle, the emergency lights would not work, no lights or screens would work, I could not get the vehicle out of park or disengage the steering lock so I could push it to the side of the road. There were no warning lights or notifications prior to this happening. This car has 11,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. The only anomaly I noticed is that the radio stopped working some time before thi…

Fuel tank failure at 18,000 miles and less than 3 years of ownership. I noticed that the vehicle had a strong gasoline smell when I was around it. When looking under the truck, I could see that there was a fuel leak coming from the fill pipe inlet into the fuel tank itself. Took the vehicle under warranty to the ford dealer, and was told that the hose clamp was loose connecting the fill pipe into the fuel tank itself. Was sent on my way with the vehicle, and noticed a smell of gasoline and fuel not even two months later. Took it back to the dea…
