Year-by-year records
Recall history
3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
98V002000 · Equipment:Other:Labels
Reported: 1998-01-05 (January 5, 1998) · Model years: 1995, 1996
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCK/TRAILERS. THE CERTIFICATION LABELS INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES ARE INCORRECT. THE GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATING IS TOO HIGH FOR THE TIRES THAT WERE INSTALLED.
Consequence: THE VEHICLE IS TOO HEAVY FOR THE TIRES INSTALLED RESULTING IN A TIRE SEPARATION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A CORRECTED CERTIFICATION LABEL ON THESE VEHICLES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗99V085000 · Parking Brake:Driveline
Reported: 1999-04-20 (April 20, 1999) · Model years: 1997, 1998
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A DRIVELINE PARKING BRAKE. THE FASTENERS THAT CONNECT THE END OF TRANSMISSION COMPANION FLANGE TO THE PARK DRUM AND DRIVELINE MAY LOOSEN.
Consequence: IF THIS IS UNDETECTED, THE FASTENERS MAY FATIGUE AND EVENTUALLY SHEAR OFF ALLOWING THE DRIVELINE TO SEPARATE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FLANGE FASTENERS FOR PROPER TORQUE AND REPLACE ANY FASTENERS FOUND LOOSE. IF THE FASTENERS ARE FOUND TO BE PROPERLY TORQUED, THEY WILL BE REMOVED, PERMALOCK WILL BE ADDED, AND THEN RETORQUED TO PROPER SPECIFICATIONS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗99V111000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1999-05-06 (May 6, 1999) · Model years: 1999
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKES. THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE TUBE TO THE FRONT LEFT BRAKE CAN CONTACT THE BOTTOM FRAME RAIL FLANGE.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE TUBE WITH ONE THAT PROVIDES CLEARANCE TO THE FRAME RAIL.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.
Failure mileage by component
Median and middle 50% of usable owner-reported mileages. Ranges require at least five records.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1998: 0 complaints · 1999: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1998 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1999 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1998 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1999 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
