Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

06V423000 · Steering:Linkages:Tie Rod Assembly

Reported: 2006-11-02 (November 2, 2006) · Model years: 2005, 2006

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, THE TIE ROD SPECIFIED FOR THE AXLE ASSEMBLY IS TOO SHORT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT THREAD ENGAGEMENT.

Consequence: THE TIE ROD ENDS MAY SEPARATE UNDER CERTAIN EXTREME CONDITIONS, RESULTING IN REDUCED STEERING CONTROL. SUCH AN EVENT MAY LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE TIE ROD FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 19, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

08V666000 · Service Brakes, Air:Disc

Reported: 2008-12-16 (December 16, 2008) · Model years: 2009

DAIMLER TRUCKS RECALLED 1 MY 2009 FREIGHTLINER CUSTOM CHASSIS X-LINE MOTOR HOME CHASSIS EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX FRONT AIR DISC BRAKES. THE FRONT AIR DISC BRAKES MAY HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED WITH GREASE BETWEEN THE PISTON HEAD/PLATE AND THE DIAPHRAGM. WHEN BRAKING PRESSURE IS APPLIED, THE GREASE MAY ALLOW THE PISTON HEAD/PLATE TO SLIP OFF CENTER AND CATCH ON THE REDUCING RING OF THE SERVICE CHAMBER.

Consequence: THE CATCHING OF THE PISTON HEAD/PLATE ON THE REDUCING RING MAY LOCK UP THE CORRESPONDING FRONT AIR DISC BRAKE WHICH MAY IMPACT THE OPERATOR'S ABILITY TO STEER OR CONTROL THE VEHICLE.

Remedy: DEALERS REPLACED BOTH FRONT AIR DISC BRAKES SERVICE CHAMBERS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2008. NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED ON THIS RECALL.

The body of our class A diesel motorhome is breaking loose from the chassis. The welds on two of the back brackets that hold the body to the frame have broken loose from the frame. As I round corners, especially in round-a-bouts, there is loud banging and grinding sounds from the back of the motorhome as the body slides from side to side. If this continues it could compromise hydraulic hoses and wiring and at worst the slide far enough to cause major accident.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
