Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

97V090002 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Lever And Linkage:Column Shift

Reported: 1997-09-02 (September 2, 1997) · Model years: 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM AND HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS CHASSIS EQUIPPED WITH ALLISON 500 SERIES TRANSMISSION AND A BENDIX 9X3 POWER APPLY PARK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE CAM LEVER OF THE POWERED APPLY BRAKE CAN MOVE FORWARD, BECAUSE A HOLE IN THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTING BOSS WAS DRILLED TOO DEEP.

Consequence: THIS CAN ALLOW THE CAM LEVER TO BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES. THE OPERATOR WOULD HAVE NO WARNING THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT APPLIED ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE UNEXPECTEDLY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL SHIMS IN THE DRILLED AREA OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PARK BRAKE PIVOT PIN HOLE.

98V156000 · Steering:Linkages:Knuckle:Spindle:Arm

Reported: 1998-07-21 (July 21, 1998) · Model years: 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: WALK-IN VAN AND SHUTTLE BUS CHASSIS EQUIPPED WITH MERITOR MODEL FC-921 FRONT AXLES. STRESS CRACKS CAN OCCUR IN THE LEFT FRONT AXLE STEERING KNUCKLE.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LEFT HAND STEERING KNUCKLE WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED KNUCKLE WITH A LARGER CROSS SECTION IN THE AREA THAT WAS CRACKING.

05V205000 · Fuel System, Diesel

Reported: 2005-04-27 (April 27, 2005) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

CERTAIN 1998-2003 MY FREIGHTLINER FS-65 SCHOOL BUS CHASSIS AND MB-45, MB-55, AND XB SHUTTLE BUS CHASSIS, AND THOMAS BUILT BUS: MVP-ER AND MVP-EF SCHOOL BUS AND NON-SCHOOL BUS MODELS EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS ISB DIESEL ENGINES AND EQUIPPED WITH FEDERAL-MOGAL 12 AND 24 VOLT FUEL LIFT PUMPS. THE FUEL PUMP COULD FAIL TO TRANSFER FUEL APPROPRIATELY CREATING AN ENGINE STALL CONDITION.

Consequence: SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN USE, A POSSIBLE VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Remedy: CUMMINS WILL NOTIFY THE CUSTOMERS OF FREIGHTLINER AND THOMAS BUILT AND REPLACE THE FUEL LIFT PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 1-800-DIESELS.

01V322002 · Vehicle Speed Control:Accelerator Pedal

Reported: 2001-11-15 (November 15, 2001) · Model years: 2001

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS, FIRE TRUCKS, AND TRANSIT BUSES AND SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL/ACCELERATOR PEDALS SUPPLIED BY WILLIAMS CONTROLS INDUSTRIES. THE WELD ATTACHING THE CLEVIS TO THE PLATE HAS INSUFFICIENT PENETRATION AND COULD ALLOW THE CLEVIS TO SEPARATE FROM THE PLATE.

Consequence: IF THE CLEVIS SEPARATED FROM THE PLATE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN USE, THE VEHICLE WOULD RETURN TO IDLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE PEDALS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 18, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

05V469000 · Fuel System, Other:Delivery:Fuel Pump

Reported: 2005-10-05 (October 5, 2005) · Model years: 2004, 2005

CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 FREIGHTLINER VAN, MOTOR HOME, SHUTTLE BUS, AND SCHOOL BUS CHASSIS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 2004 AND MAY 2005. ERRATIC VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE FUEL LIFT PUMP CAUSES PREMATURE WEAR OF THE PUMP. THIS PREMATURE WEAR COULD RESULT IN FUEL LIFT PUMP FAILURE AND IN SOME CASES MAY CAUSE AN ENGINE STALL CONDITION.

Consequence: SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Remedy: CUMMINS WILL NOTIFY THE OWNERS OF THE FREIGHTLINER AND THOMAS BUILT VEHICLES AND WILL REPAIR THE ENGINES BY EMC RECALIBRATION AND REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL LIFT PUMP AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS ASSISTANCE CENTER 1-800-DIESELS (1-800-343-7357) OR FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
