Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

97V066000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Drum:Drum

Reported: 1997-04-21 (April 21, 1997) · Model years: 1995, 1996, 1997

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: GLAVAL CONVERSION VANS AND PICKUP TRUCKS. THE RETAINER CLIPS WERE NOT REMOVED FROM THE REAR BRAKE DRUM WHEEL STUD BOLTS PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION OF A CUSTOM WHEEL.

Consequence: THE WHEEL CAN APPEAR TO BE OR CAN ACTUALLY GO OUT OF BALANCE AND COULD CRACK IN THE LUG NUT AREA INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WHEELS AND REMOVE THE RETAINER CLIPS IF STILL IN PLACE AND ALSO INSPECT WHEELS FOR CRACKS (INCLUDING THE FRONT WHEELS, IF THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED). IF THE WHEELS ARE CRACKED IN THE LUG NUT AREA, THE WHEELS WILL BE REPLACED.

97V098000 · Wheels:Lugs/Nuts/Bolts/Studs

Reported: 1997-06-04 (June 4, 1997) · Model years: 1995

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: GLAVAL CONVERSION VANS, 1995 CHEVROLET/GMC G-20 VANS EQUIPPED WITH TIPAN 15" X 7" WHEELS. THERE IS INADEQUATE THREAD ENGAGEMENT ON THE WHEELS WHEN INSTALLED ON THESE VANS.

Consequence: IMPROPER TIGHTENING OF THESE WHEELS CAN, OVER TIME, CAUSE EXCESSIVE LOOSENING OF THE LUG NUTS, FRACTURE OF THE LUG STUDS, AND SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL FROM THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: THESE WHEELS WILL BE REPLACED WITH WHEELS HAVING A DEEPENED LUG NUT SEAT AND APPROPRIATE LUG NUTS TO ENSURE ADEQUATE THREAD ENGAGEMENT.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
