Recall history

6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

83V045000 · Power Train:Driveline:Differential Unit

Reported: 1983-04-27 (April 27, 1983) · Model years: 1982

THE LOCKING SCREW THAT RETAINS THE PINION SHAFT IN PLACE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD COME LOOSE. THE PINION SHAFT TURNS THE GEARS INSIDE THE DIFFERENTIAL THAT ROTATE THE DRIVE AXLES AND REAR WHEELS. IF THE LOCKING SCREW COMES LOOSE, IT COULD DAMAGE OTHER COMPONENTS OR JAM IN THE GEARS. IF THE PINION SHAFT COMES LOOSE, THE REAR WHEELS MAY NO LONGER POWER THE VEHICLE.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SCREW AT NO CHARGE.

84V095000 · Equipment:Appliance:Air Conditioner

Reported: 1984-08-20 (August 20, 1984) · Model years: 1984

PLASTIC PLUG LOCATED ON TOP OF THE FRONT AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT REMOVED DURING ASSEMBLY. THIS DEFECT DISRUPTS NORMAL OPERATION OF EVAPORATOR BLOWER HOUSING.

Remedy: REAR A/C SYSTEM BLOWER WILL BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE SUCH AS MELTING OR BURNING. IF NO DAMAGE IS DETECTED, THE RESISTOR WILL BE REPLACED AND ANY REMAINING PIECES WILL BE REMOVED. IF DAMAGE IS DETECTED, THE RESISTOR AND THE A/C EVAPORATOR INLET CASE WILL BE REPLACED.

86V131000 · Exterior Lighting:Headlights:Switch

Reported: 1986-09-19 (September 19, 1986) · Model years: 1986

THE PUSH PULL HEADLIGHT SWITCH MAY HAVE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WHICH ALLOW AN INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT CAUSING HEADLIGHT TO FLICKER OR SUDDENLY GO OUT. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: SUDDEN LOSS OF THE HEADLIGHTS UNDER SEVERE WEATHER OR NIGHTTIME DRIVING CONDITIONS COULD REDUCE DRIVER VISIBILITY WHICH MIGHT RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: REPLACE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AS NECESSARY.

88V016000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Filler Pipe And Cap

Reported: 1988-02-09 (February 9, 1988) · Model years: 1987

FUEL TANK LOWER FILLER PIPE MAY CONTAIN SMALL HOLES AT SOME SPOT WELDS USED TO ATTACH A MOUNTING BRACKET.

Consequence: FUEL COULD LEAK FROM THE PIPE DURING REFUELING ORTURNING AND SPILL FUEL IN EXCESS OF AMOUNT PRESCRIBED BY FMVSS 301.

Remedy: REPLACE FUEL TANK LOWER FILLER PIPE.

91V040000 · Seats

Reported: 1991-03-11 (March 11, 1991) · Model years: 1989, 1990, 1991

SEAT BACK OF THE REAR BENCH SEAT MAY BREAK AWAY FROM THE SEAT CUSHION IN AN ACCIDENT.

Consequence: SEAT OCCUPANT WOULD BE SUBJECT TO GREATER INJURY; VEHICLEWOULD NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS 207.

Remedy: INSTALL REINFORCEMENT THAT RUNS FROM SIDE OF SEAT BACK FRAME ASSEMBLY TO SEAT CUSHION FRAME ASSEMBLY, STRENGTHENING THE SEAT BACK.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
92V127000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Power Assist

Reported: 1992-09-03 (September 3, 1992) · Model years: 1992

THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY HAS A PUSHROD PIN THAT IS TOO SMALL AND IT IS INSTALLED IN THE WRONG POSITION, CAUSING AN INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL RATIO AND A DECREASED MASTER CYLINDER STROKE.

Consequence: THE REDUCED MASTER CYLINDER STROKE RESULTS IN FAILURE TOMEET THE PARTIAL SYSTEM FAILURE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 105, "HYDRAULIC BRAKESYSTEMS". A FURTHER REDUCTION IN BRAKING ABILITY AT A TIME WHEN PARTIAL SYSTEMFAILURE HAS OCCURRED COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: REPLACE THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
