Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

75V165000 · Wheels:Multi Piece

Reported: 1975-09-03 (September 3, 1975) · Model years: 1975

77V098000 · Suspension:Front:Control Arm:Lower Arm

Reported: 1977-06-22 (June 22, 1977) · Model years: 1975, 1976

THE FRONT SUSPENSION CONTROL ARMS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH BALL JOINTS WHICH MAY CONTAIN SOCKETS THAT WERE NOT PROPERLY HEAT-TREATED. THIS MAY CAUSE THE SOCKET TO WEAR RAPIDLY AND ALLOW THE BALL JOINT STUD TO SEPARATE FROM THE SOCKET, CAUSING EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL SUSPENSION TO COLLAPSE.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, WHERE NECESSARY, WILL REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
78V019000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar

Reported: 1978-01-24 (January 24, 1978) · Model years: 1978

THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT COUPLING ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MACHINED OVERSIZED IN THE SERRATION AREA WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS WOULD PREVENT THE COUPLING FROM PROPERLY TIGHTENING ON THE SHAFT WHEN THE CLAMP AND PINCH BOLT WERE INSTALLED.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SHAFT COUPLING, IF NECESSARY, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

83V085000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Filler Pipe And Cap

Reported: 1983-09-02 (September 2, 1983) · Model years: 1982

IN A VEHICLE IMPACT FROM THE REAR, THE THREE PIECE HOSES COULD SEPARATE AND RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE IN EXCESS OF THE AMOUNT PERMITTED BY FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY".

Remedy: A NEW FUEL FILLER HOSE WILL BE INSTALLED BY DEALER ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
88V110000 · Suspension:Front:Control Arm:Lower Arm

Reported: 1988-07-06 (July 6, 1988) · Model years: 1985, 1986

LEFT HAND LOWER CONTROL ARM CAN CRACK AND COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE LOWER BALL JOINT TO SEPARATE FROM THE CONTROL ARM.

Consequence: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL CAN OCCUR WHICH COULD RESULT INA CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: REPAIR OR REPLACE LOWER LEFT CONTROL ARM.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
