Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

95V029000 · Electrical System:12v/24v/48v Battery

Reported: 1995-02-21 (February 21, 1995) · Model years: 1993, 1994

THESE VEHICLES CAN EXPERIENCE AN ACCUMULATION OF HYDROGEN IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT WHICH, IF AN IGNITION SOURCE WERE PRESENT, CAN IGNITE.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE IGNITION GAS TO IGNITE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND THE INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR OCCUPANT INJURY.

Remedy: GM HAS MODIFIED THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT VENT AND HAS ALSO INSPECTED THE BATTERY PACKS ON ALL VEHICLES FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF GAS LEAKAGE FROM THE BATTERIES.

BOUGHT REMANUFACTURED GM TRANSMISSION AND A REBUILT ENGINE. 2 YEAR WARRANTY ENDED MAY 08-HAD LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON NEW TRANSMISSION. IT WENT OUT 2 MONTHS AFTER WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION COMPANY IS NOW REBUILDING THE NEW TRANSMISSION. TORQUE CONVERTER FELL APART. PAID 2300.00 FIRST TIME, NOW HAVE TO PAY 1400.00 MORE, PLUS 200.00 TOWING FEE. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, IT STARTED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE ALIGNMENT AND ASKED A FRIEND TO CHECK IT FOR ME BUT WHEN HE WAS UNDER THE CAR HE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER FRONT TIRE WAS BALLOONING ON THE TOP OF THE TIRE WHICH IS WHY THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER AND WAS PULLING HARD RIGHT. HE THEN CHECKED ALL FOUR TIRES AND NOTICED THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE WAS ALSO STARTING TO BALLOON ON THE TOP OF THE TIRE, HE INFORMED ME THAT MY TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND THE BELTS WERE SEPERATING FROM THE TIRES. IMMEDIATELY I LOOKED UP MY TIRES ON …

I HAVE A 1994 GMC SIERRA 1500 VIN # [XXX], I'VE HAD SINCE 1996. RECENTLY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO WORK WHILE IN HEAVY RAIN CAUSING SUDDEN INABILITY TO SEE THE ROAD OR TRAFFIC. I HAVE CONTACTED A LOCAL VENDER ( NEWTON CHEVEROLET, CHATTANOOGA, TN), THAT KNOWS OF NO RECALL AND GMC DIRECT WHO ADVISES THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY REPAIR ISSUED IN THE PAST THAT HAS SINCE EXPIRED BUT NO SAFETY RECALL. *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
