The Column Shifter that is installed on all 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HDs and 3500HDs poses a potential safety risk to its passengers and other drivers on the road. When the column shifter of the vehicle is in the standard drive position the shifter covers part of the screen and the direct path to the radio volume control dial and infotainment home button. It has been found and replicated that attempting to interact with the infotainment screen UI and the home button/volume control dial the driver may easily accidentally bump the shifter into the neu…

Owner report 11532174 · 2023-07-13 (July 13, 2023)

When attached to a trailer with solar panels, the truck will intermittently disconnect the trailer electronics which disables the trailer brakes and trailer lights. This is because the solar energy is back flowing to the truck via 7 pin connector and overloading the circuit. Having a truck disable the trailer brakes and lights intermittently is very dangerous. Earlier model years of this truck do not suffer this issue. GM is aware and has TSB but no solution has been found on the truck side without disabling the solar panels on the trailer.

Upon starting our 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD after towing a camping trailer for approximately 200 miles, the following error notifications would cycle every 20 seconds to 5 minutes: "Check Trailer Wiring" "Service Trailer Brake System" The trailer brake would become disabled after these errors, and sometimes would connect with a "trailer brake connected" message, only to repeat every 20 seconds to a few minutes later. During the 60 minutes in which I drove to an RV dealership to have the problem looked at, on multiple occasions, I had no…

Shortly after the alert warning goes off again and I turn the engine off and start it back up. It cleared the alert, I brought it back in on 06/15/2024. My truck wonders down the highway. It has been to the dealership well over 4 times. They have aligned the truck multiple times, changed the steering gear box, changed the power steering pump, changed tires and nothing fixes it. It takes constant adjusting of the steering to stay in my lane on any road. Quite pitiful for a $90,000 truck. Was able to move off the highway but cars behind us had to dodge us when it failed. There was warning message on the dash and a CEL. The truck threw two codes P0700, P0747. Brake pads have excessive squealing. Squealing implies incorrect pressure to rotor to stop the vehicle, which highly concerns me as an operator. According to the dealer where I reported the issue, there is a technical bulletin that approves replacement of the brake pads for free if reported in first 7500 miles. This vehicle exhibits the same failure described in NHTSA Recall N232426400 , spontaneous unlatching after rain due to water intrusion into the exterior tailgate release switch. I’m requesting a goodwill replacement under GM bulletin # N232426400 as the failure mechanism and part are identical. It has caused brake failure and nearly killed me because of battery drain while driving. All American Chevrolet of Midland Texas is refusing to solve the problem and says no recall is available.

Upon exiting the freeway, I pressed the gas and the vehicles rpm’s went up to 4K plus on a diesel engine, no acceleration. Thought maybe there was ice and had lost traction, tried again, same thing. Then a shudder, bang and pop. The check engine light went on and informed me of limited power and acceleration. There was no acceleration. Rpm’s would go to 2000 plus just to move. Got it to the dealership and parked it. Made a service appointment. They tried to put it into reverse and it wouldn’t move.

When attached to a trailer with solar panels, the truck will intermittently disconnect the trailer electronics which disables the trailer brakes and trailer lights. Earlier model years of this truck do not suffer this issue. GM is aware and has TSB but no solution has been found on the truck side without disabling the solar panels on the trailer.

Problem #1: Trailer brakes failed while pulling 40' fifth wheel trailer. Was driving at about 50MPH on a 55MPH road and was approaching a stop light. I went to apply my truck and trailer brakes simultaneously and quickly found out I had "lost" my trailer brake. This happened another two times within the next 10 mile trip to my house. I immediately disconnected my trailer and took my truck to the shop. The GMC Dealer fixed this issue, however, it is both scary and extremely dangerous to the public when something like this happens on a brand new …

When the car is on and in park, there is a button on the front console that drops the tail gate. The truck gives you no indication that the button has been pressed or that the tailgate is open. You can then drive the truck with the tailgate open and have no indication or idea. As a result, it is easy to lose gear out of the truck bed while you are driving. This button is located just above a storage compartment and is easy to press while placing items in this compartment. This is a major safety hazard on the road. There is no option to disable …

Brake control module disconnects trailer brakes while towing. Apparently a known issue with trailers equipped with solar battery chargers which have higher charge than vehicle battery. It feeds back into the trailer brake power module causing it to shut down.
