Owner report 11131670 · 2018-09-26 (September 26, 2018)

WHILE COMING TO TRAFFIC LIGHTS TO MAKE A STOP THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE PEDAL BEGINS TO GET HARDER AND HARDER TO PRESS WHILE LOSING THE ABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. WHILE ENTERING PARKING SPACES THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL GET EXTREMELY HARD AND LOSE ALMOST ALL STOPPING POWER. THIS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES IN ONE DAY RESULTING IN A NEAR REAR-ENDING OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AS WELL AS HITTING A CURB WHICH STOPPED US FROM ENTERING THE FRONT WINDOW OF A RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN HE NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AND NOTICED THE BRAKES ON THE YUKON WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION THE FIRST 3-4 TIMES WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED OR TAPPED, BUT THEREAFTER THE BRAKES WOULD BECOME HARD AND HE HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS HE COULD BUT WITH LITTLE TO NO STOPPING ABILITY. THE 'BRAKE ASSIST' LIGHT CAME ON. HAD WE BEEN IN ANY TRAFFIC OR ON A SHORTER ROAD, WE WOULD HAVE SURELY CRASHED INTO SOMEONE AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATAS…

IT IS SO ROUGH THAT IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE MAY HAVE RAN INTO THE YOUR BACK BUMPER. IT IS ALSO BAD ENOUGH THAT IT STARTLES THE DRIVER AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. GM IS SAYING THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS EIGHT SPEED TRANSMISSION. IF MY CAR, THE ONE I'M DRIVING NOW, HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM I WOULD DEFINITELY REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. Hello, I’m calling about the GM transmission recall recently announced in March 2025 affecting 2020 Yukon vehicles. My Yukon experienced what I believe is the exact same issue described in the recall. Our vehicle lost forward gears and almost caused a crash. A certified mechanic confirmed the transmission fluid was burnt and full of clutch material, with internal transmission damage. We are asking for this to be handled under the recall, as the issue directly matches GM’s known safety defect. We need this resolved immediately , the vehicle is…

A/C system draining into drivers side floor area. Water from the A/C system is not draining properly and causing water to collect under the carpet on drivers side, leading to mold, bacteria and potentially harmful to people with respiratory issues. After researching various Internet forums, this seems to be a common issue in 2021 Yukon and Tahoes. The dealership will be investigating the issue tomorrow.

The heads up display starting with the 2022 model removed the colored lane departure warning from the sides of the road graphic that is in line with the road and moved it to a very small display to the left side of the driver's field of view. Now to see the lane departure warning requires a shift of the driver's view to the left and a head tilt if wearing progression bifocals. On prior year models the colored warning provided an early alert well before the seat vibrates as the warning. Taking my vision off the road caused me to come up on a …

Transmission shifting gears sporadically between 49-57 mph and 19-24mph. If I’m driving at 53 mph, I take my foot off the gas and slow down to 50 mph, when I start to slowly accelerate again, it jerks and makes a loud noise as if the transmission has trouble shifting. Took it to the dealer 3 times now. First time they said they can’t find anything wrong. Second time they replaced a valve body that supposedly would fix it. It didn’t. Third time they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I don’t feel safe driving around my 3 kids all the time.

My vehicle started making a knocking sound and eventually died on me. I barely made it to a repair shop to check out my vehicle, but had to get it towed back to my home from the repair shop after they told me my engine failed. This happened around 118,000 mileage. I found out that this issue is very common and needs to be addressed for this year and model vehicle. It could have ended very badly for me as I was on the interstate when it happened. Now, my vehicle is sitting and I am unable to use it. Engine would cost me over $12k for cost and re…

We noticed the passenger side taillight was out. It’s not a simple bulb replacement but an entire assembly. It was put back in place and it lit up again. A few weeks later it wasn’t working. Pounded and tapped on it and it works again. We're guessing there is some sort of short so we asked for an estimate on getting an assembly replacement when it was in for a regular oil change. Shocked that a necessary part would cost $1,112.77!!! Whatever happened to changing a bulb for a few dollars?

Slipping Gears: Many Yukon Denali owners report experiencing unexpected gear changes or loss of power while driving. Hard Shifting: This problem manifests as harsh or abrupt gear changes, often accompanied by noticeable jolts when shifting from one gear to another. The 2017 GMC Yukon has serious transmission issues that GM continues to ignore, and it is going to get someone hurt. Passenger brake Led Circuit board prematurely failed resulting in the entire assembly needing replacement. The assembly is $500 and higher. This is a safety issue and though there was a class action lawsuit, the light fails after 72000 miles which appears to be when GMC wont replace the part. $500 for a tail light replacement is a financial burden to be able to keep the car on the road. There is no warning when the light fails. Please consider a recall on the tail lights.

I was taking my client to school. I stopped at the stop sign. When I pushed gas pedal to go, my truck did not go, it strained did a big jerk then went. The next morning it did the same thing & later on that day, it did it again. Two days later I had to stop at red light. When the light turned green I pressed the gas pedal & nothing. It did not go at all. I turned the ignition off and back on twice & put it in drive still did not go but was slowly going backwards. A by-stander stopped to assist me getting my truck out of traffic.

I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIME FOR INSPECTION. THE FIRST TIME INVOLVED A REPEATED VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. THE RESOLUTION WAS TO CHANGE OR FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO GET RID OF ANY METAL SHAVINGS. SINCE THEN I'VE TAKEN IT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE WITH REPORTS OF JERKING, A DELAYED START WHEN ACCELERATING, AND MOST RECENTLY A LURCHING WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN REVERSE AND DRIVE. EACH TIME THEY HAVE SAID THIS IS NORMAL.

I WILL BE AT A STOP THEN I ACCELERATE AND THE CAR HAS A HARD SHIFT FORWARD. IT TENDS TO PULL FORWARD ALL OF A SUDDEN BUT VERY VIOLENTLY. I HAVE TAKEN IN MY YUKON TO THE TWO GMC DELERSHIPS IN MY AREA SEVERAL TIMES. THEY HAVE SERVICED IT AND EVEN PERFORMED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH BUT STILL THE PROBLEM HAS ALWAYS CONTINUED. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE TRANSMISSION WILL SUDDENLY SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN WHILE LIGHTLY INCREASING SPEED. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD INTO FIRST GEAR WHILE GRADUALLY COMING TO A STOP. OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY (PARKING LOTS) THE TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTS TO SECOND GEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION. THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM THAT CANNOT BE REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP.

High pressure fuel pump regulator failed and cause gas leaking, reduced engine power and gas smell coming back in vehicle. It was also blowing out white smoke. It had delayed ignition starting. The engine light did come on. Several makes and models of GMC has had recalls for this problem. The 2017 GMC Yukon was not included for this recall and should have been.
