04V218000 · Exterior Lighting:Tail Lights

Reported: 2004-05-07 (May 7, 2004) · Model years: 2003

ON CERTAIN DYNA, XL, AND TOURING MOTORCYCLES, THE TAIL LIGHT BULB CAN FALL OUT OF THE SOCKET.

Consequence: THE TAIL LIGHT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT BECOME INOPERATIVE, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BULBS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JUNE 3, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-342-4680.

MOTORCYCLE WILL STOP RUNNING GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR IN TOWN. ENGINE WILL INCREASE TO 3000 RPM WITH NO CONTROL OVER IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 12 TIMES IN THE LAST 400 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER THEY HAD THE MOTORCYCLE FOR 4 DAYS AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BIKE NOW SO THEY CANNOT FIX IT IF IT IS NOT BROKE AND I SHOULD DRIVE IT UNTIL IT FAILS AGAIN THEN BRING THE MOTORCYCLE BACK TO THEM AND THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.
