Owner report 10549637 · 2013-10-26 (October 26, 2013)

THIS SPRING (2013) THE BRAKES ON MY FIFTH WHEEL RV TRAILER APPEARED TO BE WEAKENING. AFTER A FALL CAMPING TRIP IT SEEMED I HAD NO TRAILER BRAKES. A TEST REVEALED THAT FULL EMERGENCY BRAKING INDUCED BY PULLING THE BREAKAWAY PIN WOULD NOT LOCK UP THE BRAKES. FURTHER TESTS SHOWED THAT ELECTRIC MAGNETS IN ALL FOUR BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING BUT NOT CAUSING ENOUGH BRAKING TO LOCK UP THE WHEELS. I FOLLOWED UP BY TAKING THE TRAILER TO MY LOCAL RV DEALER WHO CHECKED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND CONFIRMED THAT THE MAGNETS WERE TOO WEAK TO MAKE BRAKES FUNCTION…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
