Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V678000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Reported: 2014-10-28 (October 28, 2014) · Model years: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015

Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino Motors) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 XJC and XFC vehicles manufactured February 17, 2011, to October 31, 2014. The brake warning lamp that is supposed to illuminate in the event of a loss of brake fluid pressure or that there is low brake fluid may not operate correctly due to a software programming issue. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems."

Consequence: If the warning lamp does not illuminate in the event of low pressure or low brake fluid volume, the driver will not be warned of the potential for a reduction or loss of braking capability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Hino Motors will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ABS ECU, free of charge. The recall began on December 19, 2014. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9300.

14V727000 · Hybrid Propulsion System

Reported: 2014-11-12 (November 12, 2014) · Model years: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015

Hino Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Hino XFC vehicles manufactured August 27, 2011, to November 7, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the output shaft of the Hybrid Vehicle (HV) motor may break.

Consequence: If the output shaft breaks during vehicle operation, the vehicle may stop moving under its own power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: Hino will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HV motor with one that has a stronger output shaft, free of charge. The recall began February 6, 2015. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9300. Hino's number for this recall is A9930.

17V201000 · Hybrid Propulsion System | Power Train:Clutch Assembly

Reported: 2017-03-23 (March 23, 2017) · Model years: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

Hino Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino) is recalling certain 2013-2017 XFC710L, XFC720L, XFC730L, and XFC740L vehicles. The clutch drum spline of the front module of the Hybrid Vehicle (HV) motor may wear out.

Consequence: If the clutch drum spline wears out, the vehicle will lose the ability to move under its own power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Hino will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clutch drum spline with one that has increased wear resistance, free of charge. An interim notice was mailed to owners on May 22, 2017. The recall began on November 9, 2017. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9390.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
