Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

21V282000 · Electrical System:Wiring

Reported: 2021-04-22 (April 22, 2021) · Model years: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2013-2021 AF1, 1871, and SFO vehicles. Insufficient voltage and/or cracked wiring insulation may cause the aerial controls system to fail.

Consequence: Exposed wires can create a shock risk to the vehicle operator.

Remedy: HME will inspect and service all affected vehicles, including installation of new and replacement aerial components, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

20V104000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Fuses And Circuit Breakers

Reported: 2020-02-24 (February 24, 2020) · Model years: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2016-2020 AF1, 1871 and SFO emergency vehicles. The fuse box may be missing an O-Ring seal, potentially allowing moisture or contaminants into the fuse box.

Consequence: If moisture or contaminants enter the fuse box, the fuse box may overheat or malfunction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: HME will notify owners and will provide replacement fuse boxes, free of charge. The recall began May 18, 2020. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

21V283000 · Equipment:Mechanical:Boom/Crane/Ladder:Motor/Hydraulic Pump

Reported: 2021-04-22 (April 22, 2021) · Model years: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2016-2021 AF1 and 1871 vehicles. The self-leveling function may malfunction, causing the aerial bucket to move beyond the level position.

Consequence: Unexpected movement of the aerial bucket increases the risk of an injury.

Remedy: HME will reprogram the aerial controls and modify the hydraulic system, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 2, 2021. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

21V790000 · Fuel System, Diesel:Fuel Injection System:Fuel Rail

Reported: 2021-10-11 (October 11, 2021) · Model years: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Ahrens-Fox model 34 Type 3, Rescue, Pumper, Tanker, Aerial, CommFox, WolfSA Tanker, 1871-SFO, 1871-W, 1871-Spectr, and AF1 fire trucks. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot boreholes, allowing the high-pressure fuel rail assembly to leak.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rail threads and fuel lines, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified on January 20, 2021. Owners may contact HME's customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

22V095000 · Fuel System, Diesel:Fuel Injection System:Fuel Rail

Reported: 2022-02-18 (February 18, 2022) · Model years: 2019, 2020, 2021

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2019-2021 AF1 and 1871 vehicles. The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five, and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak.

Consequence: A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will install new fuel tubes with vibration isolators, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
