Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

21V807000 · Wheels:Lugs/Nuts/Bolts/Studs | Wheels

Reported: 2021-10-15 (October 15, 2021) · Model years: 2018, 2019, 2020

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Ram 5500 emergency vehicles. The flanged wheel lug nuts may have been over-tightened during service.

Consequence: An over-tightened lug nut may cause the wheel stud to break, resulting in wheel separation and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will update the torque specification in the owner's manual and other published service documents. Dealers will also inspect the vehicle's wheel studs, replacing them if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 25, 2022. Owners may contact HME's customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

My 2019 Dodge Ram 5500 was idling and in park. I stepped out of the vehicle to open our garage door in an effort to park the truck inside. A total of five minutes passed with this truck idling outside the door, ours opens manually, not automatically. As I was walking to pull the the chain and open the door, this truck began to move, with trailer attached and pushed right through our large garage door, nearly running me over. The truck then crashed into the I beam holding the building up, broke the drivers side mirror, smashed the front drive…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
