Recall history
6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
04V245000 · Seat Belts:Front:Buckle Assembly
Reported: 2004-05-28 (May 28, 2004) · Model years: 2004
CERTAIN SEAT BELT BUCKLES ON SOME MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE LOAD REQUIREMENT OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES."
Consequence: THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE MAY UNLATCH IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.
Remedy: AMSAFE WILL NOTIFY CUSTOMERS AND REPLACE THE BUCKLES. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT AMSAFE AT 1-574-266-8330 OR HME AT 1-616-534-1463.
NHTSA campaign record ↗21V282000 · Electrical System:Wiring
Reported: 2021-04-22 (April 22, 2021) · Model years: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2013-2021 AF1, 1871, and SFO vehicles. Insufficient voltage and/or cracked wiring insulation may cause the aerial controls system to fail.
Consequence: Exposed wires can create a shock risk to the vehicle operator.
Remedy: HME will inspect and service all affected vehicles, including installation of new and replacement aerial components, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.
NHTSA campaign record ↗16V002000 · Power Train:Axle Assembly
Reported: 2016-01-05 (January 5, 2016) · Model years: 2015
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling one 2015 SFO fire service chassis vehicle manufactured on July 31, 2015 and equipped with a drive axle manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. The affected axle may have hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.
Consequence: If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: HME will notify the owner, and a dealer will inspect the torque and if necessary tighten the bolts, free of charge. The recall began on February 24, 2016. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.
NHTSA campaign record ↗17V642000 · Steering:Linkages:Tie Rod Assembly
Reported: 2017-10-12 (October 12, 2017) · Model years: 2015
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2015 Silverfox SFO fire emergency trucks equipped with certain Spicer D or E series steer axles. The castellated nut on the steer axles may not be properly torqued, allowing the tie rod to loosen.
Consequence: If the tie rod loosens, it may disconnect from the steering knuckle, causing a complete loss of steering and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: HME will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the castellated nut and tie rod, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on October 24, 2017. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.
NHTSA campaign record ↗20V104000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Fuses And Circuit Breakers
Reported: 2020-02-24 (February 24, 2020) · Model years: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2016-2020 AF1, 1871 and SFO emergency vehicles. The fuse box may be missing an O-Ring seal, potentially allowing moisture or contaminants into the fuse box.
Consequence: If moisture or contaminants enter the fuse box, the fuse box may overheat or malfunction, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: HME will notify owners and will provide replacement fuse boxes, free of charge. The recall began May 18, 2020. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-534-1463.
NHTSA campaign record ↗21V790000 · Fuel System, Diesel:Fuel Injection System:Fuel Rail
Reported: 2021-10-11 (October 11, 2021) · Model years: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Ahrens-Fox model 34 Type 3, Rescue, Pumper, Tanker, Aerial, CommFox, WolfSA Tanker, 1871-SFO, 1871-W, 1871-Spectr, and AF1 fire trucks. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot boreholes, allowing the high-pressure fuel rail assembly to leak.
Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rail threads and fuel lines, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified on January 20, 2021. Owners may contact HME's customer service at 1-616-534-1463.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2020: 0 complaints · 2021: 0 complaints

| 2020 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2021 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
