79V273000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Fuses And Circuit Breakers

Reported: 1979-12-27 (December 27, 1979) · Model years: 1977, 1978

THE FUSE HOLDER CONTACT SPRING ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES IS DEFECTIVE IN THAT IT CAN CAUSE HIGH TEMPERATURES TO DEVELOP AT THE FUSE, AND THE FUSE MAY FAIL. FAILURE OF THE MAIN FUSE WOULD CAUSE ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS TO CEASE, INCLUDING LIGHTS AND IGNITION.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A FUSE BOX WHICH CONTAINS A MORE EFFECTIVE SPRING, AT NO COST TO OWNER.

79V065000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 1979-03-05 (March 5, 1979) · Model years: 1979

IF THE COUNTERSHAFT OIL SEAL IS SUBJECTED TO EXTREME OIL PRESSURE VARIATION, THE COUNTERSHAFT OIL SEAL MAY BE SPLIT, ALLOWING OIL TO LEAK. LEAKING OIL CAN COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE REAR TIRE, WHICH CAN RESULT IN TRACTION REDUCTION.

Remedy: COUNTERSHAFT OIL SEAL WILL BE REPLACED AND A MODIFIED "OIL PATH BODY" WILL BE INSTALLED TO REDUCE THE OIL PRESSURE AT THE COUNTERSHAFT OIL SEAL. REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

79V112000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 1979-05-01 (May 1, 1979) · Model years: 1979

THE THREADED INSERT FOR THE OIL FILTER RETAINING BOLT MAY NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE STRESS CAUSED BY TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE, PARTICULARLY IN THE EVENT THAT THE OIL FILTER BOLT HAS BEEN OVERTIGHTENED.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A DIFFERENT TYPE OIL FILTER BOLT OF INCREASED STRENGTH.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
