I FILLED THE SEVEN GALLON GAS TANK YESTERDAY, AND THE DASHBOARD RANGE DISPLAY CALCULATED THE RANGE OF THE CAR ON GAS POWER AS 871 MILES. I HAVE BEEN DRIVEN MOSTLY ON ELECTRIC BATTERY POWER, BUT WITH ONLY SEVEN GALLONS OF GAS IN THE TANK, THAT RANGE IS ABSURD. NEW DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLES MIGHT BELIEVE THE RANGE AND INADVERTENTLY STRAND THEMSELVES SOMEWHERE.

THE CAR DRIVES FINE WHEN THERE IS SUFFICIENT BATTERY. WHEN BATTERY LEVEL DROPS TO LOW (2 BARS) THE CAR DOES NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE BECOMES SLUGGISH AND REVS UP QUITE A BIT. I HAVE DRIVEN ~650 MILES SO FAR AND THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES ALREADY. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED ONLY ONCE IN THE HIGHWAY WHERE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING.

WHEN THE BATTERY IS LOW THE HONDA CLARITY'S RPM JUMP REALLY HIGH AND VEHICLE REVS REALLY HARD AND STARTS TO LOSE POWER. MY VEHICLE HAD TWO BATTERY BARS AND WHEN I TRIED TO CLIMB IT MOUNTAIN IT LOST SPEED. I WAS ALMOST HIT TWICE BECAUSE MY CAR KEPT LOSING SPEED AND IT WAS REVVING LIKE IT WAS STRUGGLING TO KEEP MOVING. VERY SCARY SITUATION TO BE IN WITH OTHER CARS AND LITTLE CHILDREN IN MY CAR. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THE CAR REVVING.

THE HV (HYBRID VEHICLE - GAS) FUEL RANGE IS WILDLY OVERINFLATED. THE CAR HAS A 7 GALLON TANK SO IT SHOULD BE ABOUT 300 MILES ON A FULL TANK ACCORDING TO THE EPA ESTIMATE. HOWEVER, IT OFTEN SHOWS IN EXCESS OF 800 MILES. THIS IS EVENTUALLY GOING TO CAUSE SOMEONE TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION, LIKE IN A DESERT OR OTHER REMOTE AREA. ACCORDING TO ONLINE FORUMS, THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO AFFECT EVERYONE WITH THIS MODEL OF CAR.

THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER USES PAST DRIVING HISTORY AND FUEL STATE (AMONG POSSIBLY OTHER DATA) TO CALCULATE AN EXTIMATED HV RANGE SO THAT THE DRIVER CAN KNOW APPROXIMATELY HOW FAR THE VEHICLE CAN SAFELY TRAVEL BEFORE NEEDING TO REFUEL AND/OR RECHARGE. ON A RANDOM BASIS OUR NEW CLARITY SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AND SOUNDS LIKE WE HAVE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL EVEN THOUGH WE ARE JUST CONTINUING IN DRIVE MODE. A/C stopped working, so defrost is no longer working efficiently. Honda says they only cover the condenser under the extended warranty and not the evaporator and want to charge me over 2200 to repair. If they are extending A/C warranty for condenser it should cover the entire A/C system since everyone online that had an issue with the condenser eventually ends up with an evaporator issue as well and then the defrost or A/C do not work properly.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
