REAR BRAKES INEFFECTIVE ON ALL MODELS OF HONDA GOLDWING 1800 MOTORCYCLES. MANY, MANY WING OWNERS COMPLAIN OF HAVING TO PUMP THE REAR BRAKES TO GET THEM TO WORK. IF YOU'RE IN A PANIC SITUATION, YOU DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT. I'VE HAD MINE TO THE DEALER TWICE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH NO RESOLUTION. THEY CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA AND WERE GIVEN NO HELP. MINE HAS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE NEW AND IT IS NOW 2 YEARS OLD. MANY WING OWNERS STATE THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, BOTH IN PERSON AND VIA THE INTERNET. THE "INCIDENT DATE" IS INVALID BUT Y…

WHEN I APPLIED REAR BRAKE, I COULD FEEL A RAPID VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT VIBRATED THE ENTIRE BIKE. THE FAIRING RATTLED FROM THE VIBRATION. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON MY 2008 GOLDWING AND IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE 2010 GOLDWING UNTIL AFTER THEY DID THE RECALL ON THE BRAKES. AFTER THE RECALL IT STARTED DOING IT. I DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM FOR THE FIRST 19,000 MILES. THE FACTORY REP SAID THAT IT WAS ENGINEERED THAT WAY AND IT WAS SUPPOSE TO DO IT BUT HAD NO ANSWER WHY IT DIDN'T DO IT BEFORE. when just starting out using foot brake and handbrake , handbrake came in towards grip real far and throttle cut out but not off for a few seconds. Then abs and traction control lights came on along with mode selector lights until bike was shut down and restarted. Upon restarting all would be ok for a few miles or even the whole day or would just do it all over again. This vehicle has a chronic issue with an unreliable parking brake. The brake is required to be engaged each time the motorcycle is parked since the motorcycle automatically puts it into neutral when the back is turned off. The ceases to hold the bike in place even on minimal inclines because of poor design. The brake requires replacement and/or adjusting every few months and is not reliable. I've had it replaced twice now in less than 1-year, and the Honda dealer will not cover the cost ($350) even though the motorcycle is under manufacturi…

Many Honda Goldwings are known to have what owners call a stumble in engine performance which happens as the engine temperature is warming up. This does not happen when the engine is still cold, or once the engine reaches normal operating temperature. This stumble becomes a safety problem when operating the vehicle at slow engine speed and making a turn. On a motorcycle the operator depends on engine response to help control the vehicle. If the engine stumbles while making a turn it increases the chance of the operator losing their balance and …

With less than 10k miles I have excessive tire cupping. Upon a deep dive inspection of the motorcycle I found the bolts to the upper control arm coming loose/ backing out. Excessive amount of threads showing on all 4 corners of the control arm. I Contact the dealer, who informed me that this is normal. MOTORCYCLE HAS A HESITATION WHEN APPLYING THROTTLE. THIS HAPPENS FROM A COLD START AS WELL AS DURING ENGINE WARM-UP AND OCCASIONALLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THIS ENGINE HESITATION CAN RESULT IN AN ENGINE STALL WHICH CAN RESULT IN A CRASH IF THE MOTORCYCLE IS IN A LOW SPEED TURN. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. MOTORCYCLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND STALLING OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP. STALLING IS INTERMITTENT, BUT FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE HAS INCREASED. STALLING OCCURS WHILE IN MOTION. STALLING HAS OCCURRED FROM 3-65 MPH. STALLING HAS OCCURRED WHILE BIKE IS MOVING UPRIGHT AND STRAIGHT. STALLING HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE BIKE HAS BEEN LEANED OVER AND TURNING. …

I have a 2023 Honda Goldwing/DCT which is a 7 speed motorcycle. On the highway traveling around 70 miles per hour in heavy traffic the bike just dies and it will just coast to a stop. You can not restart the bike because it is locked in 7th gear. Twice I had to have the biked towed to a Honda dealer. I called Honda and they said they have not heard of this problem. If they go on You tube they can see where other riders are having the same problem. I left my bike in at Honda dealer 2 weeks ago and they are waiting for some guidance from Honda.…

2024 Honda Gold Wing GL1800DR Tour fails to detect the keyfob intermittently. The vehicle does not require a standard key to start, unlock or closing/opening the paniers, except for emergency situation and requires at that time a sequence to be followed. For this, it requires that you have the fob in your person while operating the motorcycle. The concerns around the fob/remote is that it looses communication with the vehicle intermittently, inhibiting access, say, to ignition start button or properly closing paniers/top case. The case of t…

THE MOTORCYCLE HANDLEBARS SHOOK VIOLENTLY UPON DECELERATION FROM ABOUT 40 MPH DOWN. AFTER CHECK WITH HONDA THEY ADVISED IT COULD BE A TIRE PROBLEM. THEY ACTED AS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. A CHECK WITH OTHERS WHO OWN GL1800'S STATE THIS IS A WELL KNOWN AND WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THE GL1800 CALLED A DECELERATION WOBBLE. HONDA HAS NO FIX FOR IT AND WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I FEEL THE NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE HONDA FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOME IS KILLED. I CHECKED WITH SEVERAL FORUMS…

THE ENGINE STUTTERS AND STALLS AT LOW SPEEDS RESULTING IN AN INABILITY TO MAINTAIN FORWARD MOMENTUM, CAUSING A FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AN UPRIGHT POSITION WITHOUT EMERGENCY ACTION TO DISABLE DRIVE TRAIN, SUCH AS QUICKLY DISENGAGING CLUTCH IN ORDER TO ALLOW A SMOOTH COAST UNTIL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAN BE SAFELY RESTORED. THIS CONDITION PERSISTS UNTIL THE ENGINE IS AT FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE OR FOR ABOUT 15-30 MINUTES DEPENDING ON RIDING CONDITIONS.

THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW TANK ON THE HONDA GL1800 IS UNDER THE BIKE AND IS LOWER THEN THE FRAME. THE FRONT TIRE CAN KICK UP ROAD DEBREE AND IT WILL KNOCK A HOLE IN THE TANK. THIS HAPPENED TO MY BROTHER-IN-LAW AND TO MY BIKE. WHEN THE TANK HAS A HOLE IN IT, THE ANTIFREEZE RUNS OUT ON TO THE GROUND AND UNDER THE REAR TIRE ON A TWO WHEEL BIKE. I ASKED THE DEALER WHAT HONDA IS DOING ABOUT THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT HONDA WILL NOT PAY TO FIX IT. I CAN PUT A NEW TANK ON THE BIKE, BUT THE NEXT TIME THE FRONT TIRE KICKS UP ANY THING I'LL HAVE ANOTHER…

WHILE RIDING MY HONDA GL1800 MOTORCYCLE, THE FRONT TIRE RAN OVER A FLAT PIECE OF METAL APPROX. 1" X 8". THE METAL STRIP FLIPPED UP AND PUNCTURED THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW TANK, CAUSING RADIATOR FLUID TO SPILL ONTO THE ROADWAY. THE TANK IS DIRECTLY INFRONT OF THE REAR TIRE. LUCKILY, THE PUNCTURE WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TANK, AND THE FLUID SPILLED ONTO THE ROADWAY APPROX. 2" TO THE RIGHT OF THE TIRE. HAD THE PUNCTURE BEEN 2" - 3" FURTHER LEFT, THE RESULT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, OR DEATH. HONDA NEEDS TO PROTECT THE COOLANT …

THE GL1800 MOTORCYCLE HAS A REVERSE ON IT. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE ALLOWED TO ENGAGE, WHEN IN NEUTRAL & NEVER WHILE RUNNING. I FOUND A CIRCUMSTANCE THAT ALLOWED IT TO START ENGAGING, AND POSSIBLY COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS HAD I NOT ACTED QUICKLY. THE STEPS FOR THIS ARE: -BIKE IS IN 1ST GEAR -BIKE IS STARTED -THE REVERSE SWITCH IS ACCIDENTALLY HIT WHILE PRESSING THE START BUTTON (RIDING GLOVES MAKE THIS SOMEWHAT SIMPLE IN THE DARK - IT IS LOCATED RIGHT BY YOUR STARTER AND YOUR CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS) -YOU TAKE OFF IN 1ST GEAR (IN MY SCENARIO I…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
