Owner report 11553946 · 2023-11-07 (November 7, 2023)

While driving the vehicle, the codes related to the following systems all began flashing: Automatic Emergency Braking Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance My 17-year-old daughter, a new driver, was driving the vehicle at the time and became concerned, distracting her from concentrating on the road. The next day when my husband went to check the car, now the check engine lights were now lit. I just brought this, less than one-year-old vehicle back to the dealership. I was advised the capless gas tank was broken and not clos…

While driving home, my Brand New 2023 Honda Ridgeline's, with 3,350 miles, transmission's warning light popped up and my transmission when into N while on the highway, I was on the fast lane, while I started noticing the lack of power coming out of the transmission. Wireless Charger Doesn't Work with or without a case on my Samsung 22 Ultra (which works on every other of the 4 wireless chargers I have). So I just purchased the 23 RTL-E on 09/28/23. Upon taking possession of the vehicle, got in adjusted and began setting things up to my liking. I went to place my phone on the equipped charging mat and after some shifting and repositioning, the phone began to charge w/ the case on. That lasted all of about 4-10 seconds. After fiddling w/ it for a few more minutes, no luck. Finally, I decided to remove th…

My steering locked up while moving at a very low speed (<5mph) and turning my wheel (not all the way). Voltage in the vehicle dropped (HVAC speed and lighting). A yellow caution/warning blipped for a second on the dash. I would not normally submit an issue like this but if this had happened at high speed, going down the road, the results could be catastrophic. I have seen the HVAC fan speed drop before while turning the wheel but never the steering lockup. This only happened once on Tuesday Night 1/2/24 at 11pm. This was not just the Power stee…

We purchased our new 2023 Ridgeline RTL-E 4 six months ago and always noticed that the passenger inside door handle wouldn’t open the door unless we pushed the unlock button, the driver’s door works normally. We thought this might be a new safety thing until we tried to manually unlock the passenger door today and could not, meaning the passenger door can only be opened inside if you electronically unlock the door. That’s concerning…if we loose battery power in a wreck, you cannot get out the passenger door!! We are calling the dealer in the mo…

On more than one occasion, the Forward Collision Warning System and Emergency Braking System on my 2023 Honda Ridgeline activated when there was no obstacle. These incidents have occurred since new. Normally, the false activation causes my vehicle to flash the "brake" warning on the instrument cluster, the steering wheel to shake, and the brakes to be gently applied. However, one time a false activation occurred while I was turning within a busy intersection. This false activation caused my vehicle to suddenly brake to a complete stop. Tha…

Approximately six(6) months ago, my wife and I noticed a very noxious gasoline smell in the cabin of our truck, and upon further investigation determined that the smell was a direct result of gasoline that had infiltrated the oil in the engine. The oil was changed and the used oil smelled very strongly of gasoline. I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Industries to get the oil analyzed, and they, in fact found gasoline in the oil. Honda said that the results were useless because they wouldn't accept third party results. I took my truck to the l…

I understand my vehicle has a start and stop function. It does not work as it’s intended per Honda dealership and page 400s of the owners manual. My car is been shutting off randomly as I’m giving it gas moving forward ( 1 time) and we’ll over 10 times as I’m backing up into my driveway. When I am backing up, it’s normal and out of no where, my vehicle shuts off and it shifts back to neutral then starts to roll forward. When the vehicle is in drive, stopped on a steep hill, and allowed to slip backward the software puts the transmission in neutral and shuts of the engine off. This leaves the vehicle coasting backwards with very little steering or brakes. This happened to me and I coasted backward across a street before I could get it stopped. If a car had been coming it would have hit me sideways. I can reproduce this in drive forward or in reverse, and I reproduced this in a second 2021 Ridge Line truck. There is no warning or message.

Safety Recall for rear subframe rust was "performed" at local dealer. Quality of work was questioned in that safety recall indicated dealer would removed corrosion on said subframe and apply anti-corrosive wax. Dealer notes they applied some anti-corrosive wax and some undercoating to a small section but did not coat ALL corrosion areas they cleaned. The February 2022 edition of Consumer Reports, page 19, identifies 2017-2020 Honda Ridgeline (and others) as having a faulty Hood Latch that could release as the vehicle is in motion thereby blocking the driver's view of the road. I cannot find any evidence on your website or that of Honda's about a recall or a fix for this issue. Please look into this matter and get back to me as soon as possible. While trying to feel for the composite bed release button underneath the tailgate with the tailgate closed, the sharp composite bed of the truck lid sliced my finger open. The manufacture should have at least chamfered the edge of the trunk lid or installed a guard or trim piece that would prevent contact with the razor-sharp fiberglass-reinforced plastic material.

The paint on all four doors of my 2022 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition - White Pearl is cracking at the seam where sealant is applied, with visible rust beneath. This issue began at approximately 32,000 miles, within the warranty period. The cracks have worsened over time, and I’m concerned about potential corrosion and structural weakening of the doors.
In March 2025, I reported the issue to my local Honda dealer, who confirmed the cracks and instructed me to obtain repair estimates at their body shop. By May 2025, the regional Honda rep denie…

Both Drivers and Passenger doors won't unlock or open without significant' force. This only occurs sometimes but has happened many times over the last year. I have had witnesses (son's) in the car when this happens. It seems like the door locking solenoid is holding the doors locked and both pulling the handle and tryin to flip the unlock switch are difficult. The risk here is in a crash or fire, someone without strength, won't be able to exit the vehicle. I video'd this on 27Apr24 (can provide if requested).

I am the owner of a 2026 Honda Ridgeline, which I have owned for approximately seven months. Since taking delivery, the vehicle has emitted a persistent, very strong chemical odor consistent with volatile organic compound (VOC) off-gassing. This is distinct from a mildew or air-conditioning-related odor; the smell is present throughout the cabin interior as well as in the truck bed well, and does not correlate with AC use. In an effort to resolve the issue, I have kept the vehicle parked outside (not in an enclosed garage), with the bed well le…

The automatic high beam system is terrible. It is too sensitive so the beams flash hi/low on and off. Even a small road reflector on a dark empty road will force it back to low beam. Other cars I own with this type system work much better. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

The Engine Auto Idle Stop system causes the vehicle to intermittently drift backward (without power) for 1-2 seconds, until restart, when at certain types of intersections (extremely minimal incline or near-level intersections). This has caused numerous unsafe situations during normal driving involving the backward drift. Furthermore, the drift and restart delay cause significant hesitation during intended acceleration attempts at the described intersections. The drift has potential to cause a collision with catastrophic injury to a trailing…
