Owner report 11424560 · 2021-07-13 (July 13, 2021)

I was driving in heavy traffic on the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn, NY on a 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 motorcycle when my hydraulic clutch suddenly stopped functioning. The bike has only about 70 miles on the odometer. This clutch problem caused the motorcycle to jerk to a stop. It was difficult to shift into neutral to restart the vehicle and there was a long line of cars behind me on the bridge with no breakdown lane. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the bridge. Every time I had to slow down to avoid a collision, the bike would stal…

Disabling “Traction Control” mitigated problem for last 2+ months. Possibly only incidental or coincidental success. Frequency of problem, however, has recently returned. Recent online se…

Sudden loss of throttle control. Fist incident I had left my house and ridden a 1/2 mile and the throttle suddenly became unresponsive. The motorcycle then after restart would only go aprx 10-15mph with throttle applied. I replaced the battery as it was 3yrs of age. Motorcycle then operated normally for the next trip aprx 5 miles. The following day as I went to turn left and enter a roadway in a gap in traffic the motorcycle lurched forward a few feet and then had no throttle response. This put me into the oncoming traffic lane with no propulsi…

As I approached an intersection with a stop sign for my direction of travel I pulled the clutch lever in to slow my speed and downshift the motorcycle. The clutch lever pulled all the way to the handlebar without disengaging the clutch. I had to lock/skid the rear brake to avoid being hit by an oncoming automobile. Fortunately the driver of the vehicle saw me skidding past the stop sign and swerved to avoid hitting me. I had to put the motorcycle into first gear and press the starter button as I pushed to get moving again. At the next intersect…

THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH FALSE NEUTRALS AND THE BIKE FALLING OUT OF GEAR WHILE IN DRIVE. THE BIKE WILL BE RIDING IN 5TH GEAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN LOSES POWER. MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND AFTERMARKET MANUFACTURERS HAVE EVEN SOLD A SHIFT SPRING KIT TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY THE STOCK SPRING IS WEAK CAUSING THE BIKE TO FALL OUT OF GEAR. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

On right turns, usually immediately after starting the motorcycle, the throttle loses response. There is an unexpected loss of power and when power to the rear wheel returns, the throttle responds by exponentially increasing power even when the same amount of throttle is given to the motorcycle. On another incident, the motorcycle completely loss power and a traction control failure message appeared on the dash after the incident. Turning off the bike and starting it back restored full function of the bike, however the engine light and traction…
