On February 24, 2023, my 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo (~36K miles) would not accelerate and began losing power while driving. Problem seemed to be worse while driving uphill. At one point, car would also not go into reverse. Turning car off and then on seemed to resolve the issue with reverse. Similar issue occurred in early November 2022. Local Hyundai service center performed maintenance under warranty on the transmission November 7. Between November 7 and February 24, there were no observable issues with the vehicle while driving.

If this had happened on any mild turn this would have resulted in a crash. The steering wheel locked up entirely at 50mph. During cold temperatures (sub 32F), the driver's side door will not open from the outside. Occasionally the passenger door is affected as well. This required crawling through the hatch to open the doors from the inside. When the key fob is actuated you can hear and audible click in the area of the door lock, but it can't be opened. Once the weather warms and the car warms up the doors perform normally. This has never occurred during the warmer months.

WHEN DRIVING THE STEERING DOES NOT STAY STRAIGHT.

This car was recalled for a bad engine and because their computer would not throw off a code they refused to replace the bad engine. It has 60000 miles on it and has been well maintained. The rocker arms have gone bad and there are countless others who have the same issue that Hyundai refuses to address because now computer code was thrown off. They hide behind this to avoid replacing their bad engines.

I started to hear a grinding sound when breaking and I took it into a Meineke dealer to see about getting it fixed. During a general diagnostic they discovered that 3 of the four brakes were not working and the calipers needed replaced. I was told this was due to a manufacturer issue and that there will be a recall on these parts soon but no ETA. They informed me that they have seen this similar issue on many 2019 Hyundai Velosters and there would be a recall soon but I have no ETA and I cannot drive my vehicle.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Rpm’s have still been low to the point the car seems like it wants to stall & I’m not sure what to do. It doesn’t make me feel safe driving it.
