Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

23V065000 · Structure:Body:Roof And Pillars

Reported: 2023-02-10 (February 10, 2023) · Model years: 2022, 2023

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2022-2024 IC Bus CE, 2022-2023 IC CE SBus, IC RE, and 2023 EV school buses. The roof panel may have been manufactured with insufficient joint strength. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 221, "School Bus Body Joint Strength."

Consequence: A school bus roof panel with insufficient joint strength may separate during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will add additional fasteners to secure the joints, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 3, 2023. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 23501.

Consequence: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the defective gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 30, 2024. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 24504.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
