A 2006 IC TYPE C SCHOOL BUS BELONGING TO THE SAINT PAUL PUBLIC SCHOOLS CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED THIS AFTERNOON. THE BUS WAS RETURNING TO THE GARAGE AFTER IT'S LAST ROUTE WHEN IT SUFFERED WHAT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A RIGHT FRONT HEATER FAN FIRE. THE DRIVER SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE HEATER FAN AND PULLED OVER AT A SAFE LOCATION. SHE REPORTED THAT UPON STOPPING HEAVY SMOKE POURED FROM THE HEATER VENT. SHE EXITED THE BUS AND REPORTED THAT THE BUS WAS FULLY ENGULFED WITHIN TWO TO THREE MINUTES OF STOPPING THE VEHICLE. SHE REPORTED FLAMES IN…

THIS DEALS WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN INTENTIONAL ONGOING FRAUD AGAINST NHTSA AND OWNERS OF SOME 9,000 INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL BUSES SOLD THROUGHOUT THE U.S. BETWEEN 8/2002 AND 8/2003. AS OF MARCH 2014 IT APPEARS THAT MANY OF THE 9000 BUSES (STANDARD AND HANDICAPPED) INVOLVED IN THIS APPARENT FRAUD CONTINUE TO PUT ALL OCCUPANTS AT RISK OF INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH. IN 8/2002 IC CORPORATION (IC) INSTALLED ACQ TREATED PLYWOOD SUBFLOORS IN ITS BUSES KNOWING IT WAS MORE CORROSIVE THAN UNTREATED WOOD TO METAL FASTENERS (PER ITS OWN TESTING). IC INTENTI…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
