Year-by-year records
Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
92V102000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly
Reported: 1992-07-20 (July 20, 1992) · Model years: 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992
THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED THE CRASH BARRIER TEST.
Consequence: THE FUEL TANK WAS PUNCTURED, RESULTING IN FLUID LOSSGREATER THAN ALLOWED BY FMVSS 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". FUEL SPILLS INA COLLISION COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE IF EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Remedy: MODIFY THE FUEL TANK CAGE TO COMPLY WITH FMVSS 301.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V192000 · Exterior Lighting:Turn Signal:Switch
Reported: 1996-11-12 (November 12, 1996) · Model years: 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
THESE BUSES HAVE A TURN SIGNAL LEVER THAT WILL NOT OPERATE CONSISTENTLY IN THE LANE CHANGE MODE IF THE LEVER IS NOT MOVED TO THE POSITION WHERE RESISTANCE TO MOVEMENT IS FELT.
Consequence: SHOULD THE REAR SIGNAL LAMPS NOT FLASH WHEN A LANE CHANGE WAS BEING MADE, IT COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FOLLOWING THE BUS TO COLLIDE WITH THE BUS INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Remedy: OPERATORS WILL BE MAILED INFORMATION CONCERNING THE PROPER METHOD OF USING TURN SIGNALS. A DECAL WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED TO BE PLACED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF EACH BUS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗95V127000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Cables
Reported: 1995-06-27 (June 27, 1995) · Model years: 1989, 1991
THE WIRE END OF THE HAND THROTTLE CABLE PASSES THROUGH A SPLIT PLASTIC GROMMET IN THE ACCELERATOR ROD. THIS WIRE CAN WORK THROUGH THE SLOT IN THE GROMMET AND BECOME LODGED BETWEEN THE GROMMET AND THE EDGE OF THE HOLE IN THE ACCELERATOR ROD.
Consequence: IF THE THROTTLE WIRE BECOMES LODGED, THE ACCELERATOR CAN STICK AND NOT RETURN TO IDLE POSITION POTENTIALLY AFFECTING THE OPERATOR'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPAIR BUSES BY INSTALLING A NEW CABLE GROMMET WITHOUT A SLOT; INSTALL A NEW CABLE STOP; AND READJUST THE THROTTLE CABLE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V092000 · Suspension:Rear:Springs:Air Suspension System
Reported: 1993-05-21 (May 21, 1993) · Model years: 1991, 1992, 1993
THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE WAS OMITTED IN THE AIR TANK. THE AIR TANK IS THE RESERVOIR FOR THE AIR SUSPENSION AND IS NOT BRAKE RELATED. WITHOUT THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE, THERE IS NO BACK-UP SYSTEM TO LIMIT AIR PRESSURE IN THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM.
Consequence: LACK OF A BACK-UP SYSTEM TO LIMIT AIR PRESSURE BUILD UPCAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IN THE AIR TANK AND CAN CAUSE THE TANK TO RUPTURE.THIS CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY TO ANYONE IN THE VICINITY.
Remedy: INSTALL A PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IN THE AIR TANK.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V112000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Mounting
Reported: 1993-07-07 (July 7, 1993) · Model years: 1991, 1992
THE FUEL TANK CAGE ASSEMBLY BOLTS MOUNTING THE VERTICAL STRAPS TO THE HORIZONTAL ANGLE WERE ASSEMBLED WITH THE THREADED END OF THE BOLTS FACING THE FUEL TANK.
Consequence: IF THE FUEL TANK CAGE IS STRUCK WITH SUFFICIENT FORCE ITIS POSSIBLE FOR THE BOLTS TO PIERCE THE FUEL TANK AND CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE.FUEL LEAKAGE EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: THE FUEL TANK CAGE MOUNTING BOLTS WILL BE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED WITH THE BOLT HEAD TOWARD THE TANK.

Problems by model year
Model-wide comparison of the eight most reported components across the model. Cells show counts and shares within each model year. Open a cell for source examples.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.
Failure mileage by component
Median and middle 50% of usable owner-reported mileages. Ranges require at least five records.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1993: 0 complaints · 1994: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1993 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1994 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1993 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1994 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
Components reported together
Each cell counts unique complaints naming both components. Open a nonzero cell for examples.

Co-reporting does not establish that one component caused another concern.
Recurring narrative patterns
Specific keyword mentions beyond broad component labels. Matching includes negations and comparisons and does not confirm a diagnosis.
