Year-by-year records
Recall history
10 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
02V137000 · Wheels | Tires
Reported: 2002-05-10 (May 10, 2002) · Model years: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS, TRUCK TRACTORS, AND BUSES EQUIPPED WITH 195/75R22.5 TIRES MOUNTED ON 7.5 INCH WIDE WHEELS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THESE TIRES AND RIMS DO NOT MATCH.
Consequence: TIRES MOUNTED ON RIMS THAT ARE TOO NARROW COULD EXPERIENCE A DECREASE IN SIDEWALL DURABILITY, AND COULD ALSO EXPERIENCE HIGHER TREADWEAR FOR TIRES MOUNTED ON THE STEERING AXLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW RIMS OF AN ACCEPTABLE WIDTH (8.25 - 9 9INCHES) FOR THE 295/75R22.5 TIRE SIZE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 23, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V041000 · Wheels:Hubcap/Cover
Reported: 1996-03-01 (March 1, 1996) · Model years: 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996
THE FRONT WHEEL HUB CAN DEVELOP CRACKS AT THE WHEEL MOUNTING STUDS. WHEN MOUNTED TO THE HUB, THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE DISC ROTOR DOES NOT PROPERLY SUPPORT THE HUB AT THE WHEEL STUDS CAUSING EXCESSIVE STRESS AND FATIGUE CRACKS IN THE HUB.
Consequence: SHOULD SUFFICIENT CRACKS OCCUR, THE MOUNTING FLANGE PORTION OF THE HUB ALONG WITH THE WHEEL COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. SHOULD THIS OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE DRIVER COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND/OR THE SEPARATED WHEEL AND HUB COULD STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE, PEDESTRIAN OR PROPERTY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW, REDESIGNED HUBS ON THESE VEHICLES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V176000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Antilock/Traction Control/Electronic Limited Slip
Reported: 2000-07-03 (July 3, 2000) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL AND HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH BENDIX AIR ABS. THE ABS SENSOR WIRES ON ROTATING PARTS CHAFES WHICH CAN LEAD TO A FALSE SIGNAL BEING SENT TO THE BENDIX ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU).
Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE AIR ABS ECU TO EXHAUST THE AIR AT THE AIR BRAKE MODULATORS FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE WHEELS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SENSOR WIRING ROUTING AND RE-ROUTE OR REPLACE THE ABS SENSORS AS REQUIRED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V232301 · Service Brakes, Air:Antilock
Reported: 2000-08-21 (August 21, 2000) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM AND HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH BENDIX AIR ABS WITH AN EC-17 1030R ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU). THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSED BY 1) CHAFED ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WIRES ON ROTATING PARTS OR 2) A DAMAGED COMPONENT AT THE WHEEL END THAT GENERATES A CERTAIN TYPE OF ERRATIC SENSOR SIGNAL.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE ABS ECU TO EXHAUST THE AIR AT THE AIR BRAKE MODULATORS FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE WHEELS. THIS COULD RESULT IN EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCES AND A POSSIBLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ABS ECU.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V232401 · Service Brakes, Air:Antilock

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRACTORS BUILT WITH BENDIX AIR ABS WITH AN EC-17 1030R ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU).
NHTSA campaign record ↗03V193000 · Suspension:Front:Hub
Reported: 2003-05-21 (May 21, 2003) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
ON CERTAIN HEAVY AND MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS AND BUSES EQUIPPED WITH TRUCK HUB UNITS MANUFACTURED BY SKF EXCLUSIVELY FOR USE ON ARVINMERITOR'S FF98X SERIES NON-DRIVE STEER AXLES, THE HUB UNIT BEARINGS CAN WEAR PREMATURELY.
Consequence: SEIZURE OF THE BEARINGS CAN CAUSE WHEEL SEPARATION OR WHEEL END FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL FRONT AXLE HUBS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 12, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V246205 · Steering:Linkages:Drag:Link:Connection
Reported: 2000-10-16 (October 16, 2000) · Model years: 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL AND HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH TRW DRAG LINKS. EACH DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY CONTAINS TWO 20-EDL MODEL BALL SOCKET ASSEMBLIES. CERTAIN OF THE BALL-SOCKET BEARINGS HAVE A BELOW SPECIFICATION CASE DEPTH AND/OR HARDNESS WHICH CAN LEAD TO PREMATURE WEAR OUT OF THE SOCKET.
Consequence: THIS CAN LEAD TO PREMATURE WEAR WITH POSSIBLE SEPARATION OF THE BALL STUD FROM THE SOCKET, INCREASING THE RISK OF LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REPLACE AFFECTED DRAG LINKS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗01V140004 · Steering:Linkages:Tie Rod Assembly
Reported: 2001-08-02 (August 2, 2001) · Model years: 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AXLE ASSEMBLIES WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH TRW MODEL 20EDL BALL SOCKETS/DRAG LINKS. THE TIE ROD BALL-SOCKET BEARINGS HAVE A BELOW SPECIFICATION CASE DEPTH AND/OR HARDNESS WHICH CAN LEAD TO PREMATURE WEAR OUT OF THE SOCKET IN SOME APPLICATIONS.
Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, THE DRIVER CAN LOSE STEERING CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DRAG LINK ASSEMBLIES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 28, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
NHTSA campaign record ↗01V044010 · Steering:Linkages:Tie Rod Assembly

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2000: 0 complaints · 2001: 0 complaints

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2001 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
