Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

01V023000 · Service Brakes, Air:Slack Adjusters

Reported: 2001-02-01 (February 1, 2001) · Model years: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AIR BRAKE HALDEX AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTERS, LONG STROKE BRAKE CHAMBERS, AND DANA BRAKES. THE AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTER ANCHOR BRACKETS CAN FAIL DUE TO FATIGUE FRACTURE AND COMPLETELY SEPARATE, CAUSING THE SLACK ADJUSTERS TO FUNCTION AS MANUAL SLACK ADJUSTERS.

Consequence: IF THE SUPPORT BRACKET FOR AN AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTER FAILS, THE BRAKES AT THAT WHEEL END WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST. AS THE BRAKE LININGS WEAR, THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW BRACKET ON EACH SUSPECT SLACK ADJUSTER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 22, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

04V100000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Reported: 2004-02-27 (February 27, 2004) · Model years: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001

ON CERTAIN CONVENTIONAL TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH PRO-SLEEPER BERTHS, WATER INTRUSION CAN BE FOUND IN THE BUNK CONTROL PANEL AREA AND POOL IN THE TOPS OF THE DOME LIGHT, TV/VCR, AND OR REFRIGERATOR POWER SWITCHES.

Consequence: THE CIRCUIT BOARDS IN THE SWITCHES COULD HEAT UP , POSSIBLY PRODUCE A FLAME OR FIRE, AND CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A WATER SHIELD OVER THE BACK OF THE ENTIRE BUNK CONTROL PANEL. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JULY 16, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

UHAUL RENTED A TRUCK TO ME AND THE BRAKES WENT OUT ON ME COMPLETELY MINUTES AFTER DESCENDING THE STEEP WEST SLOPE OF WOLF CREEK PASS, COLORADO. UHAUL'S TOW TRUCK DRIVER FROM PAGOSA SPRINGS, COLORADO HAPPENED TO BE THERE AT THE TIME WHEN I PULLED OVER. HE CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THAT THERE WERE NO BRAKES. AT NIGHT, AWAY FROM A TOWN, I PERSONALLY, TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEM. BUT UHAUL, REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE ACKNOWLEDGE THE RISK TO MY LIKE AND DID NOT MAKE ANY EFFORT TO FIX THE TRUCK NOR REPLACE THE TRUCK. THEY …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
